Police: Driver crushed between two tractor-trailers at warehouse, dies
SOUTH MIDDLETON TOWNSHIP A Texas man was killed after being hit by a tractor-trailer at a local distribution warehouse Monday.
State Police at Carlisle said the incident occurred at Allen Distribution, 670 Allen Road, South Middleton Township, at 7:22 a.m.
Police said Roger D. Fortune, 56, of Garland, Texas, was opening the rear trailer doors of his truck while it was parked in the loading dock area of the building.
Another tractor-trailer, driven by Mohamud A. Shil, 23, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, pulled into the entrance of loading dock area and attempted to park directly behind the other tractor-trailer.
Police said Shil applied his air parking break supply, which did not fully engage, and the vehicle drifted forward, hitting Fortune and pinning him between the two tractor-trailers.
Fortune was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center by Life Lion, where he was pronounced dead three hours later, police said.
The investigation continues.

I'm a bit confused as to the logistics on this one.
-
Sound's like maybe he pulled the trailer valve only and it rolled forward and he wasn't paying attention...OR he just claimed to pull the parking brake and the vehicle rolled forward...something smells fishy...RIP to the driver. I tell you, you really have to be careful out on the road. Speeding trucks in the parking lot, drivers backing up randomly from the fuel island with no flashers or horn honking, texting and distracted drivers racing through the truck stop...this is all before you even leave the parking lot.
I had one driver tell me the other day, disagreeing/arguing with me by asking, "where in the drivers manual does it say to use four ways to back?" *Sigh* -
Also, the company that Mohamud works for could SERIOUSLY be sued by the family of deceased truck driver, Roger D. Fortune, of Garland Texas, and RIGHTFULLY so.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
How could he park behind him at a loading dock..? What ? doesnt make sense... yet
Shaggy Thanks this. -
Here is another example of lack of training. The little details really do matter when it comes to training drivers. Here one of those little details was missed and it killed a fellow driver.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
I had to look at Muhamud's last name twice, I thought it was something else...............what he is deep in.

Ticketed, sure. Unhireable - most likely. Civil suit, you bet.
Hard time - not a chance.
edit: ^^ I didn't mean to sound like a know it all. I'm was just making a prediction as an average joe.Last edited: Aug 7, 2014

isnt a loading dock usually attached to a big building? And if one is faced with the doors towards the loading dock how the heck does one put a truck and 53 foot trailer nose to rear of the other trailer? Did someone come in move the building? Or did the building just jump out of the way then jumped backdca and blairandgretchen Thank this.
