Is it possible to work for Mercer and only do short loads ( 600 miles and under or over nite trips ) out of Chicago area and back and still be successful and profitable? Would want to be home every other night if possible....

I cant speak as to prifitability, but yes we have a lot out of and in to Chicago. Inside that radius is no problem. Rates are good. I run long, but there is a lot of that stuff on our board.

does having a curtain side limit the loads that are available to you ? i understand that it replaces tarpping but does hinder revenue ? (oops wrong place :biggrin_25510: , reposted to kona911 )

Yes it will affect my ability to haul oversize loads however even with the stepdeck I pulled, I didn't do oversize loads anyways. I won't be able to do insulation or plastic pipe loads but again, I never did those before. I will now do all those coil and steel loads I once passed up because of the required tarping. So yes, it will limit me but then open myself up to a whole bunch of loads I was turning down before.

Ksgunny. Don't stress tarping. Its not as hard as some make it out to be. Many customers help you. And every customer will put your tarps up on the load. All ya gotta do is spread them and hook rope or bungee cords.

Had my reload before I was empty. Bounced down to nm for a load to eastern mo. Longhead but knew I'd have that when I booked the one to denver.

He's probably been working to hard as I have been since rates are incrediable high.
Like this load out of KC going to washington island, WI. over $4 mile and it's not over size. It'll be my first time out to Washington Island.
