Ok, Yes I took the pre trip insp test on the computer and passed that and the 4 other tests for class A combo. So still wonder what they want other than the driving part? Im going to a dps west of Fort Worth.

Pre-trip test on the computer? That cannot mean what I think it means.
    WTF, Texas?

Texas' pre-trip requirements on the CDL test are a joke.

when i took my driving test in Dallas a few years ago it went like this. myself and another guy arrived at the location with our "instructor." He and I went inside to do some paperwork, we came out and the driving tester asked the instructor who was first and he said that guy. i climbed in the truck, the tester said the instructor had told her he had done the pre-trip then she had me do a static air brake test and off we went.

@ that time the pre-test was a written test and you didn't have to do one in front of the driving/road tester.

best of luck to ya future Driver.

Night Prowler and davo727 Thank this.

    Thank you.
Initially the main reasons I need the CDL is that I need to do a bunch of sand and gravel work on property that I own so I bought a 1990 chevy dump truck at a Ritchie auction, single rear 30K gross air brake ($2800. ) . I also have a surplus 14 foot bed MIL truck that is 22K lb empty So the cdl B is a must have and I figured go ahead and get the class A because I see the possible need for it in the future, maybe get a tractor and flatbed later to haul stuff that I buy and sell.

OK, if I said you need to do A thru K on the pretrip and you'll pass, you gonna take my word for it? Study everything, no shortcuts, know it 100% and then you wont be caught out when you have to do A - Z. The TX DMV booklet for CDL-A states what to study, why risk short cuts.

When going for your State of Texas CDL driving test, the examiner will check yours & the equipments credentials, you will physically preform a pretrip insp on the combination vehicle before being given a road test.
