majestyk, LilRobWayne and Mev Thank this. -
I have put Poly back on the table as the direction I think Crete is heading is one I do not wish to follow...
Here is my main concerns with Poly
Perdiem Pay- I really don't like it and am unclear how it is actually calculated over there ( I have brought this discussion to the table before )
Breakdowns- I am thinking of setting aside a maintenance fund (like an owner op would) to cover any downtime I may encounter..if I don't use it years end I will invest it
Dealing with brokers-Haven't done it in the past but never read much good about them, Is this an issue?
It is a fairly short concern list but ones I know that will annoy me, actual compensation is NOT the issues I have, Perdiem being the biggie as I have a unique tax situation and am not sure if Perdiem would throw a wrench in it.
I also plan on moving in a few years to Nevada..building a house in Winnemucca and I think Poly could get me thru there, I live in Telford Tn atm
I think Majestyk has moved from Las Vegas to Nc in the past or vice versa not sure if that was at Poly or Crete
I know things over there aren't roses and chocolate but at the end of the day I need a good mix of $$ and Happiness, I stay off the radar at Crete (I have talked to my Terminal Manager on a few occasions in over 4 years). No accidents and 1 speeding warning in January of this year, not sure of CSA score I'll need to pull it as I know the warning still counts as points.
Only hiccup I may have is my last non-driving employer (We still communicate as we are close friends) closed the RV business down a few years ago, I was there just over 3 years so I am not sure how the verification process could be done. -
Yes , a maintenance fund is a must.
I would suggest setting aside
one months pay as a cushion.
Get accustomed to feeling
vulnerable when it comes
to Poly and its truck situation.
We all have to put up with it.
Other than that Poly is outstanding.
Theres no other place like it in
this industry.
Brokers are only on the back hauls
and it's always the same ones.
Good luck -
As far as a breakdown fund...absolutely. Mev hit it on the head with a month of pay...2-4 weeks would cover any losses. You can make up for lost time here, but it takes time.
Vegas would be a better fit for getting home...bigcat just moved from FL to TN and they said it might have an effect on home time since we don't have a lot of loads into TN, but a fair amount thru TN. It's considered a pass-thru state instead of a destination state. Home time is usually best after an outbound delivery is made, or while under an outbound load. They don't want home time to be taken while on a back haul load.
Brokers here are decent to deal with. We use the same ones most of the time, so they know Poly and Poly's way of doing business and deal with us fairly. -
I was going to attempt to have a better attitude...however, my attempts are being thwarted...on the way out of Pol-Tex, my Maxxfarce POS decided to have DPF issues. It requested a parked regen, so, after the 2nd in a row, I now will have to bail on this load and my preset load for Monday...does anyone know how to get a different job without Poly firing you for putting in an app elsewhere? I have heard that if they get a background check request from another company, they route you to GP and escort you to the gate.

I appreciate the info...any time I've switched jobs I've always let the chips fall where they may when it comes to employment verification, but with the rumored reputation Poly has in that area, I want to make sure I have a place to land before I climb out on the wing.
Rattlebunny Thanks this. -
