The only way I can see anyone taking home $100,000 a year AFTER EXPENSES AND TAXES is if they haul those ammunition loads, I've never seen the rates on those loads, just heard about them from a couple of guys that do that at Mercer. As for making that kind of money pulling a box around off the Mercer load board, no way, don't see it pulling a step or a flat either.

It might be possible. I didn't even know we did ammo loads. But if you own everything and sacrifice time off its possible I took off average of 10 days a month this year and managed 69k after Expenses if I owned my truck and trailer I might have gotten closer to 100k

Oscar I guess it depends on how they figure "take home". if they figure whats left after advances, they may very well do that.

Starting my third week here and trying to keep an open mind but having some difficulty. The loads that I have done have been pretty good but my main problem is trying to to temper my frustration dealing with a load coordinator and the contractor web when so many loads seem to be already moved or unavailable for whatever reason any suggestions? Overall it's better than what I was doing and it is working out okay I guess, maybe my expectations may have been too high or I just haven't been here long enough to get into the groove yet. Thanks

Let the adventures begin. Getting ready to cross the bridge and grab a load to WA. Happy to be getting back on the road, I had way to much time on my hands the last two weeks. Load pays a hair over $2.04 for every mile but my fuel is going to average $2.31 GL (today's prices) so with my truck I should be fine. Plus it gets me through another long weekend with plenty of time to stop and visit some old friends.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all of my new Mercer family. May we all have a safe and profitable 2015.

Please keep in mind, this is the most dead time of the year for freight, especially flat and step.

Not to mention the number of mercer drivers dumped back into the regular system because UPS rush is pretty much over.

This is why some of us just take January off

k joseph, you are starting your third week with the first week basically taken up by orientation. I see you started orientation the week of the 15th. your first full week would have been the week of Christmas, and now your third week has the new years holiday . basically the worst two weeks of the year for flatbedding.

yes, for the time you started your expectations are way to high and you for sure haven't been here long enough to get in the groove. first thing to do is read this entire thread from start to finish, but first read the WHY do some fail at mercer thread.

you have to learn how to work your board position, a positive for you is anytime you go home you can load out of wv steel without any deadhead.

you need to understand that when loads run the board or you get a call from coordinator its an 8 minute process for load to run the board.

in the middle of an individual load screen at the top will be notation sometimes CBD which is call before dispatch, those are loads that are sent to multiple companies and they have to call to see if the load is still available.

your position on the board also determines a lot, if youa re at number 30 the odds of that 2,000 pound no tarp , 3.00 a mile to truck getting to you is slim and none, unless its going to the northeast.

but the 2.40 a mile , 4 foot tarp load weighing 35,000 may well be yours for the taking.

again read this entire thread , its all been covered here.

best advice for you now, is this. you started at slowest, most holiday riddled time of the year. relax a bit, after the first it will be much smoother. and look at it this way, if starting at Christmas is already better than where you were before, you got it made.

now you got the entire year ahead of you to learn the system, make money and next year you will park that ride until after the first.

again read the mercer threads here, sit around and play with the load board, look at other states and areas, get a feel for the freight areas that are good.
