Well, fuel is a variable expense so one would have to estimate that for the year. Generally gonna be about $0.5 - $0.55 cents per mile.

Figure about $1100 a week all in for a lease truck and trailer rental, all the insurance, OCCACC, plates/permits etc.

So I'm just saying look at the big picture and decide if it is the same, better or worse than running as a company driver.

I agree with you . It does seem that most maybe not all lease programs have very unhappy drivers lying in the road behind the company drivers.
what I was wondering is why companies would do this , besides profit , when it is their freight that is being moved and they need drivers to do that . Would it make more sense to simply sell off the older equipment before it is too late and have a lot of happy company drivers ? Or maybe do an honest lease and have happy everyone ?
Only thing I can think of is that the big profit from the lease + the lack of wages put out to starving driver = a bigger profit than a happy driver and then resell the truck they take back and up that margin and run for the bank . Money is the evil that drives man to be dishonest and greedy for sure .

How ever I am hopeful of finding a company that is honest and wants a driver to succeed so he will stay with the company .

Southwestveas, RR have change their contracts for 2015. You have to go through a RR agent to book a load versus finding your own load. However, if you find a load you can call the RR agent and have them booked the load for you. The first load RR will take 8% the second load if book back to back (btb) will cost you 15% and the third that's booked right after the second load, RR will charge you25%. If you broker a load just make sure you run a terminal load in between to keep the % RR charge low. RR has plenty of Cali runs that goes back west from most terminals.

Bruenger, I will stay as far away from them as possible unless they have changed in the last six months. Its too much political BS that goes on over their from their VP and some of the people in payroll/settlements. You have to really pay attention to your statements or they will short change you a lot. However, that being said. Bruenger has a lot of loads going to Cali that pays more than what RR pays. Example, RR loads that goes to Cali will pay you a $1.25 to 1.30 at the most. $1 for the load and 25 to 30 a mile for the FSC. Bruenger on the other hand hauls reefers. They have loads from their customers out Wichita, Dodge City, KS etc. Most of them load will pay you around $2.30 a mile or more. You will have no problem trying to find a load going to Cali from Bruenger.

I would say I'm against lease purchase but you have to do what you need to do in order to make it. How you run your business will either make you or break you out here. If you invest into your company and your doing a lease purchase, use it as a stepping stone to get your own authority, than by all means do what you have to do. Most people are quick to say not to do a lease purchase and they haven't been in trucking long and don't know a dam thing about trucking. If they are going to give out advice than they should put out advice on what you should do versus being discouraging. Good Luck

QUOTE=SouthwestVeas;4412077]hey everyone, i am wondering if anyone has any info and thoughts about RoadRunner and their new lease program for 2015. They say they've changed the contracts and drivers are no longer able to find and book their own freight any more. I filled out an app for them, got approved but it seems the recruiter is trying to push me towards running for Bruenger.. I am more interested in running the LTL for Road Runner since i live in Las Vegas and they have terminals down in southern Cali.. I've been doing this long enough to know once they get you out in the midwest or other places, you can either take whats available or sit and starve.. Is there anyone else running for RoadRunner or even Bruenger that can share information, style of running and of money they're making.. I've been combing through these pages and figured I'd ask here..

    Thanks in advance[/QUOTE]

Scottied67, you couldn't have said it any better. You are right on with your figures. Just thought I'll add my 1/2 cent.

Good to see someone could finally answer the question adding as little bias as possible.

i always wonder if those that yell about LP programs ALL being bad have looked in the mirror recently to see who failed. And why they need to push their failures onto others. I believe the main question was about RR and I feel the above answered it best.

To the OP, good luck! If you LP just remember to read the fine print. It can work out for you, it did for me. Altho, I am not with nor would I be with RR. Not saying they are bad as I do not know.

What about a lease program where you're getting 80% of the gross load? I'm in a program like that. They let me get their bulk fuel discount so i'm paying cost+$0.04 for fuel. I'm on a flatbed doing mostly ltl in the rust belt. Last week i netted $3300 on 2000 miles after all my deductions. My deductions are $815/week. I average 5.5 mpg and with my fuel discounts i'm paying about $2.50pg... I got the truck with $0 down and i pay $1164/month for 36 months. I am tied to the company for the term of the lease, but they're good to me and it doesn't seem like i'm losing. They give me settlement statements with the rate confirmations attached. Do you guys think that's a bad deal?
