Well as I said, the letters meant nothing as the founder himself had said. I only wish to God almighty, I can find the articles about the founder. But in it's hay day, DAC was known for back ground checks on employee's, and not really specific to trucking back then, but some how, some way, the trucking industry took hold of it as the number 1 source for information.

DAC was supposed to be a "holding house", of sorts for trucking companies to put info into and to be shared among other companies, At first, as many things, it was free. Then a company had to become a member.

Soon after, "the dark side" of DAC emerged, where ANYONE with the "get in code" at a trcuking company could enter the files of thier employee's and have a field day with one's record.

Now if memory serves me, only the safety dept of a trucking company can have access to the DAC system. Sort of a way to "safe guard" false reports and to eliminate the HUGE law suits against DAC for
    "false reporting".

But here in again, lies "the rub".

DAC was ONLY a holding house of the information, DAC NEVER entered information on it's own!!

DAC added information SENT TO THEM from the trucking companies!

But DAc was subjected to way too many lawsuits. AND the HQ of DAC once allowed people to go inside. Till one time, a trucker went in with a gun. Soon after, bullet proof glass and steel doors were installed. I do not believe anyone can enter the DAC buliding anymore, other than employee's.

It went from a great idea, a great beginning, to a steel fortress.

I thought there were laws preventing employers from discussing any details other than your time with the company and employment status. If that's true it should be easy to get your DAC cleaned up. I see people charging $500 to do it for you so maybe it's more complicated than I imagine.

edit: Apparently I'm mistaking 'policies' for 'laws'.

I got a copy of my DAC last year as i am getting back into trucking and have not driven since 2001. In speaking with a lady up in Tulsa at DAC Hq's it is my understanding if you have not driven in 10 or more years then everything falls off and you start with a clean slate (Not that mine was bad to begin with). Just thought i would offer that bit of info out there .
