If you know that you are overweight, do you blow past the scale house?

Technically, you can "go around" the scales right there AT the scale house! All scale houses have a "back driveway", that you can use.

One time a rookie driver from my understanding, did such that. DOT cop came out, stopped him and asked, "what on earth are you doing"?

Rookie says, "I told my dispatcher that I was over-weight, he told me to go around the scales"

Cop wasn't smiling, till he handed the rookie driver a "Greetings from CT" card.

Don't know whatever became of that rookie, soon after that. Last I heard though?

He became a safety manager at Werner!

Well let me ask you this, If YOU KNOW that YOU ARE 2,000 lbs over weight, why didn't you shift your weight? why didn't YOU call your company and tell them? Why didn't YOU go back to the shipper and have them re-work the load?

If YOU KNEW that much, why did YOU take the load? IF YOU accepted the load, it's on YOU!

Frankly, seems to me that you just don't know what to do. Please DO NOT come here in the future crying on how you got a ticket, you don't think you deserved, and how you can get out of it.

Maybe he wants to go home to see his family. I'm not saying I'm perfect but drivers gotta do to make a buck and see their families.

Been green light with 200-500 over, don't think they care. Above 1,000 then I got to get my atlas and start making phone calls.....depending if my home time is around the corner

There is no law saying that you have to stay on any road with a scale. As long as you are not driving on restricted route roads, it's nobody's business. Keep in mind that the DOT is aware of this and will set up portables to catch a few of the bypassers in certain areas.:biggrin_25523:

You wouldn't be talking about the I81 bypass and the portables...would you?

Believe it or not MO let me slide over 1200 lbs. I didn't scale the load because I was trying to beat some weather (poor excuse I know) and according to the BOL it shouldn't have been even close to overweight. Anyway, when the red light came on I puckered up and went inside with my tail between my legs. I told my story and as they were checking all my paperwork I asked how much the fine would be. They said well were just going to write it up as an inspection and they let me go. I couldn't believe it. So I guess there are still some forgiving DOT officers out there but I'm not pressing my luck after that one.

I have seen drivers just drive on the back road that runs behind the scales to avoid them don't think that is the brightest move. The only time I don't go around them is in NY. Running across 90 they set them up at random places. Most of the other northeast states I know 2 lane roads that can get me around them
