do you think swift decided to put the cameras in dedicated trucks first because those are better jobs therefore drivers less likely to quit a way to gauge the rate of attrition do to cameras

I got a reply to my initial email today. Was more corporate doublespeak. I'm going to craft some very specific questions and submit same. Jerry and Richard got "pitched" by this company and they bought it hook line and sinker.

The reason I'm adamant about not driving with a driver facing cam is first and foremost it's Orwellian. Regardless of what corporate spews, the camera is a HUGE FLASHING NEON SIGN that reads "we don't trust you".

Once the cam is in the cab, the definition of "event" becomes anything corporate says. Spring potholes, hitting a curb, running on the zip strip, doing your pretrip, losing traction, hooking a trailer, a gust of wind, etc etc ad nauseum. Bottom line they can watch you anytime.

How much on board memory do or will the cameras have? Regardless of what is said, the entire memory of the cam will be available to view.

Can they access remotely? Of course they can that's how the 20 second clips are uploaded.

It's wifi capable. Who will insure the integrity of the footage?

They keep saying it will "exonerate" the driver. Really????? From whom??? Let's be honest friends we all know what we face. Have a serious accident, cam or no cam, fault or no fault, the driver is getting tossed under the proverbial bus. So I ask again, exonerated from whom???

Let's also be honest and I'll make these personal. My hands aren't always at ten and two. I shift in intersections. I downshift on declines. If I drive for more than four hours in one stretch I don't check mirrors every 6-8 seconds. I talk on the cb. I sometimes yell in the general direction of four wheelers or even other drivers. I sometimes dance in my seat. I sometimes have to scratch or reposition the boys. I eat but never with food on my lap. I drink. I talk on the phone with hands free bluetooth. I change stations on the sirius. I was laughing so hard one time listening to comedy on sirius I had to wipe tears from eyes. I've picked my nose (no Kindle, I didn't eat it). I've taken off my jacket. I use trucker path on my cell to see weigh stations and traffic/weather alerts. I've yawned. I've driven right up to the 8 hours without stopping. I've changed cd's of the audio book. I've driven long periods with my right hand on the stupid *$#! ¥£#&^×%@$# rattling gear shift just to MAKE IT STOP. My point??? Any one of these would be "driver distraction" ten seconds before a trigger. What a great way for corporate to shift liability. Not to mention what a plaintiff attorney would do with them. We already have a bullseye why make it neon glow in the dark.

The camera is not proactive, it's reactive. These devices will not prevent a single incident.

Richard, in his response to my first email said, if you are a safe driver you have nothing to worry about. Really??? Then, pray tell, why are you making the capital investment in every company truck????

    Anywho, I've bloviated too long.

If 86% of the drivers are safe according to the video befor the cam vid then why do we need cams??? Or better yet put them in the trucks of the drivers with a certain risk score. Don't want a cam get your risk score in the negative type deal.

We also know they will not risk passing off the diamond drivers by putting cams in their trucks.

Why wait, if you're not going to put up with the camera?
But be sure to tell Swift why you are leaving.

But for OTR, any time is a good time.

Doesn't really matter what he would've thought "back in the day". What's relevant is what he's thinking in the here and now, which he's doing from a much different perspective than he would've back then.

    But are they listening?

And what do you think the agonizingly slow trucks, EOBRs, and having your route directed to you step-by-step are?

The latest video is very interesting.

It starts out with a message about certain states that are hard on speeding, then it goes into not listening to 'misinformation' about the camera system.
About what they can and can't access at any given moment.
He says to watch the video's to get the real and true information.
    Right.

Anyone with half a brain knows what these cameras are capable of, especially tied in with a Qualcom unit.
And anyone with half a brain would know what 'the powers that be' might make use of.

The world is filled with mind control. I recall the old saying 'believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.'

I think the quickest way to rid of these cams would be to find a way to use them against Swift as they will be used on us. Fight fire with a volcano.

Been following this thread and had a thought today. What is this camera company doing to keep unauthorized access to the cameras out of the equation?

Major entertainment, e-commerce, finance, etc companies are under constant threat of "hacking"--the most mainstream recent being the Sony hacks.

So what happens when X amount of cameras are accessed by an unauthorized party and a variety of safety questionable and privacy invasive videos are leaked onto the Internet?

I can see the headline now.

"America's largest trucking company's on board cameras leaked to the Internet for all to see."

Or what happens when wherever they will save your safety violation video gets hacked. And then all of those incidents are out in the wild for all to see... Including the media who is always looking for the next juicy trucking industry headline.

I got $20 that no one at swift even thought to ask that question... And if they did they simply took the sales people answer as gospel.

And before someone chimes in and says that the scenario outlines is far fetched...

    No its not.
