Not really the case. Not all potential mechanical failures can be obviously seen. When they do go and your out on the road they can lead to other things as well that could cause you to fail an inspection. When a guy is broke down it's not the right time to do an inspection. It's like forcing someone to take a physical while they just injured themselves.

Well it certainly an aggravation but from their point of view if there is enough slop in your ujoints for them to fail under normal use maintence is likely sloppy. Sloppy maintence equals free money to them. You're lucky the slack adjuster was all they found.
years ago I picked up a lease truck from Rollins leasing in Pennsauken, NJ. They were supposed to have done a full blown major pm. I got to Carlisle pa noticed my rpms were going up while speed was going down. When I got stopped I had a wheel on fire. Turned out rear was blown, axle snapped, wheel bearings failed. There was no vibration or anything indicating any problems other than the super smooth ride of a cabover on the PATP. I have often wondered whether Rollins drained the rears and forgot to refill the front carrier properly. Upshot was PA State Police wrote me up for a non collision accident. My boss said I should have let it burn rather than put out the fire. 2 other drivers stopped and helped put out the fire

So what was the final straw in your driveshaft deciding to leave you? You should look at this as a really cheap lesson.......in the wrong place at the wrong time driveline failure could be catastrophic. Having said that.........the only dropped driveshafts I have seen were heavy loads trying to start on really adverse grades...........with marginal operators. Not saying you are marginal........don't get twisted. So what was it?? Dry, GONE u-joint? Cracked yoke? Failed weld? Inquiring minds want to know the rest of the story.

Is wisconsin really that bad to everyone else? I'm from there so maybe there's some home state favoritism but I have done most things wrong that we can do out here while in Wisconsin and haven't had a single encounter but I did have a nice talk with the scale guy one morning. Took my 10 at the scale and went in to pee in the morning and ended up talking to the guy for 20 minutes. I don't know how there's so many complaints about the scales, they're never open.

Who cares. Just pay the mis-adjusted slack adjuster ticket. Sometimes you get epically unlucky, wind up in the wrong place at the wrong time and they hit you with their nonsense. Better yet have the company pay it and don't lose any sleep over it.
