Due to me being a full-time student and working odd-jobs I only have an employment history of 14 months and have officially been "unemployed" for 3 years. To make a long story short the recruiter said that they can't verify that I can perform the work required by their drivers which is absurd because I'm in good physical condition and been training as an amateur boxer the past two years in addition to construction work. Besides this and experience they say I'm more than qualified.
Any way I can get over this obstacle?
Also I'm still in trucking school until later this year and I've been looking for an official physical-demanding job hire to no avail.

That never made sense to me-- we can't give you a job because you haven't had a job. Kinda like taking a driver's CDL away for falling behind on child support when the CDL is the only way the driver makes money-- endless cycle of falling behind- brilliant

They probably figured you would be over qualified. Melton isn't the only flatbed outfit that trains. Keep plugging away with the apps and you'll find a seat. Luck!Tonitos Thanks this.

Exactly. I don't understand at all; it wouldn't be hard to simply test my physical abilities on site.

U just need someone credible to verify what u been doing the past 3 years while unemployed were u collecting benefits

From what I read, the OP wasn't collecting unemployment benefits. He was a full time student, which typically means lousy employment history due to changing scheduling needs and part time jobs. Employment history gets even worse when you go to school away from home, since that typically means working one place during school term, then another place while at home during break. I went to school for two years full time, and in that time held seven or eight different jobs.Tonitos Thanks this.

I got around that by using College as a "job" on my apps after I retired. Not sure if it helped since I draw full retirement benefits but that was how I was told to do it and keep your records handy.

Now I'm starting to understand. I was collecting unemployment for about a year and working under the table for different contractors.
I think I know what I have to do now! I appreciate the input & I'll keep everyone updated.bigred81 Thanks this.
