i would take the hook off and feed it through the base and reattach hook and anchor around a spool attaching hook back onto the chain or attach it to a stake pocket .

Yea this is what another driver showed me lol. I put the other 2 with the chain threw the holes. Anyway I'm picking up a big tank 18 ft long 8 high Monday to Ohio let's see how fun that will be to chain. It says customer prefer chains.

It probably has eye hooks to feed chains through. Or maybe you get lucky and it's an old rusted pos and you can just throw your chains right on over it.
Note: when throwing chains or straps, the end will snap under the deck. So don't throw them where you bust lights, or dent up your pretty polished aluminum box and rooms. And it's probably a good idea to make sure no one is on the other side. Splitting a form lift operators hear open isn't a good way to make friends but sure did make a good hard hat check!

Taxihacker is spot on. When you get a hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket, go buy about 6 shackles. I carry about a dozen of different sizes, but that's pottery much just extra weight. I never need that many.

I forgot the exact WWL the spools are but 98% of the time I always go around two of them.
