If you want to do the Alaska thing with produce it is definitely helpful to live in Western Washington or Alaska. My usual schedule is about ten days out and 4 or 5 at home. This last trip I sat 4 days in Soldotna waiting on a fish load. I could have left empty after my reset was up, but getting paid going home is nice too. Obviously, it messed my schedule up and cut home time short, but fish season only lasts a couple of month.

I had one on my truck and I hit two deer in Montana at 06:30 in the morning doing 65 Mph, no way out, couldn't go left or right, killed both of them and stopped to check the truck for damages, made my appointment time in Spokane, Wa at 08:00, called my office and told them I was unloaded and told them what happened, and their response was " and your still driving? " , I said when you do things right it's no problem !!!Panhandle flash and vikingswen Thank this. -
This is the time of year when we all see dead deer carcasses on the side of the road. Today, on my way to North Dakota, while driving through northern Minnesota, I saw something I've never seen and that made me a bit sad.
A dead black bear cub.
Somewhere out in those woods, is a mama bear looking...mp4694330 Thanks this. -
Ya. When I drove for Grey dog Canada we had two cubs go under a bus outside of Banff. Nothing the driver could do...sad deal.

It is kind of interesting how we rationalize certain animals. For me hitting a bear is one of my biggest worry since I love bears. Obviously, I am trying my best to avoid any critter that runs out into the road, but some of them are easier to chalk off to things happen then others. A while back I swerved for a porcupine that was trying to cross the road in front of me. Luckily I had room to go around it and the porcupine turned to go back, but it looked like I had run over its tail. When the tridem of the trailer went by it looked like it got a dose of it's own medicine and it got a sharp object poked in the rear.
On a funnier note I saw a nice grizzly sow with a cub on my last trip North just outside of Haines Junction, YT and the cub made me laugh. The cub kept standing up on his hind legs to see better over the grass and he started to hop and kept tipping over. I slowed to crawl to watch them and the mama bear was giving me the stink eye. I knew if I would stop they would run off so no chance to get the phone out for a little movie. -
Saw a corvette that hit a bear in Northern Ontario Canada a few years back , quite the mess , parts of the bear was in the passenger seat

That's the way it is. Our vehicles get messed up a bit and the animal always dies.
Unless it's a moose. Then the vehicle, no matter what kind, is going to get messed up a lot. Even an airplane. Oh, I do know about that...vikingswen Thanks this. -
Well not always--same day i saw a decent sized bull make mincemeat outta a Volvo--I watched a NH DOT plow truck w/a vee blade show Bullwinkle the pearly gates--w/out much or a scratch on the plow----

I am probably one of a handful that has managed not to hit a moose (yet) while running to Alaska exclusively. I had several close calls on my last few trips and definitively sleep a little easier now that have installed my moose bumper. Next step is upgrading the factory sealed high beams to LED and get another set of Light cannons. They have come out with a 9" version that has a 3500' spot beam.
