well fuel savings is only part of the story
compared to battery charging and keeping the detroit warm
a battery operated heat/ac unit only last 10 hours before it dies when it is 110 in Vegas and is pretty expensive too
that said I have no apu............sighcsmith1281 Thanks this. -
one other thing, IF you ever decide to do a podcast DY. I would be glad to be your engineer / sidekick. I do have experience with audio/video production too.
csmith1281, spectacle13, truckon and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have found a huge benefit with my apu. I like sleeping when its cold out but the problem I've had is I wake up in the middle of the night for natures call and I'm cold. I used to start the big engine and couldn't get back to sleep for a half hour or better until it started blowing warm air. With the apu I fire it up and its blowing warm air in a couple minutes. I get back to sleep much faster and get a better nights rest.
Grijon, blairandgretchen and double yellow Thank this. -
You can recover that extra .20 per hour when it's sucking a third gallon per hour by installing a fuel tank for the apu and using off road diesel.
FoolsErrand, Grijon, double yellow and 1 other person Thank this. -
On the apu does yours run constantly? Mine doesn't, in 10 hours mine may run 15 minutes an hour, it only charges batteries when they drop below 12.1 for 45 minutes, . so in ten hours mine may use 2 gallons in actual use.

You could also run loads to the oil sands in Alberta all summer and run houston to Florida all winter and save even more, or just find better paying loads and not worry about it.
csmith1281, mugurpe and MJ1657 Thank this. -
Or simply keep track of the apu hours, figure fuel use, deduct the deduct the taxes paid for the on road fuel. And save the cost of a tank. And finding off road fuel hi
csmith1281 and double yellow Thank this. -
You need a cow in the truck to sleep with.MJ1657 Thanks this.
