I'm a week in and getting constant flack from my trainer for my unwillingness to "minimize my on-duty time". She's been trying to put things like fueling, dropping and hooking, and etc as off duty and I'm against it. It's work. It's on duty. I'm very much a by-the-book person and I'm not willing to falsify a federal document. I'm cool with skimming things to the minimum but not outright lying. My trainer ran out of hours the first night and things went downhill from there.

The person I talked to at corporate about it told me that "things in the real world are different than what you learned in school". Problem is all of this goes against the official company training manual and driver handbook as well.

I feel like Serpico in a station full of crooked cops. "Take the money, Frank. Everybody does it." I can't. I have a conscience to live with.

Any advice? I have another offer but I'm worried about switching companies so quick. Is this the standard for everywhere? Am I doomed?

Well I'm not gna say what u should do. But are you getting (or going to) paid to drop and hook and fueling? Company paying u $30 just fuel the truck? Just putting that out their but they can't force you to change ur logs, that's ur and ur responsible

Things like load unload pre/post trip fuel you're only required to show 15min. There's no sense in burning thru your 70 waiting at a dock. You probably don't get paid much to sit, you get paid to drive. You might need those hours later. Also, as I don't see where the company is pushing you to do anything illegal or outright dangerous.... so as a student maybe don't bite the hand that's feeding you.

Now if they were making you run 3 log books and drive 48hrs straight or get fired I would have a different opinion.

Ha. It is an e-log company. But the e-logs they use are very editable.

Not taking about sitting and waiting. I know you can off-duty that. I'm talking about actually working.

elogs are only editable by fleet managers. I use fueling and sitting at a dock as off duty. Now I do use a drop and hook as on duty but it doesn't take long at all. Alot of times these situations is where I will get my 30 in if it's after 5-7 hours so I can roll later.

Wouldn't matter. You'd log it the same.
Affirmative. There is no winning, just different degrees of losing. Just remember Mr By-the-Book, that the book was written by criminals.

I'll give you an example. We were delivering last night. We pulled in to the consignee and hit up the guard shack for paperwork, directions for dropping our trailer, and which empty we could take. Doing all of that and leaving the property to find somewhere to park was probably 45 minutes. Plan was to take a 10hr after all that. She wanted everything from the stopping the truck at the guard shack onward logged off-duty.
