Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

    When Tony was there, he had a bunch of spare fuel cap keys. Gene may still have them now that he's doing that job.

    I had a bit of a bumpy start coming back out of home time. Was at my MIL's place mowing when back haul called (twice). Then the usual phone tag with back haul. I got home, left them a message and waited with my headset on. Phone never rang, but I get a voice mail...they called, but I live in the sticks, so cell service blows on a good day...and it wasn't a good day. I ended up having to 'call forward' my cell to my home phone, then leave them another message. This time it got thru. The broker was one I haven't heard from in a while. I won't mention "him" by name, but the brokerage is named after him, and he usually calls you before back haul does, and is one of the friendliest people you've ever spoken too. I ended up calling him this time. When I tell him what load, he was confused, and tells me that he has already dispatched that load to a Poly driver...uuugggggghhh. I call Poly back, get voice mail again, leave a message and start to get grumpy (grumpy was out unloading the truck, so I had to go get him :)). I actually stayed patient for a change. A few minutes later the broker calls back, turns out, the original driver dispatched on the load broke down (say it isn't so) and I was the "re-power" driver. I guess that was some "need to know" info I didn't need to know. The only problem is, it's now Monday afternoon, the broker had left for home and was on his cell with none of the info, but he did tell me the where's (as in the city, but not the pertinent info) and the when's of the load. He said he was going to roll back to the office and get the details and call me back...it didn't dawn on me at the time to tell him to just call me when he comes in the next day since the load picks up in the afternoon... It picked up N/E of Cleveland, TN at 1 pm on Tuesday...500 miles away. Which meant an extremely early start to my day, and most of my hours used getting to the pickup. But, because this is one of our better brokers, and because he always treats us drivers like people, not just a voice at the other end of the phone, I busted my butt to make sure I was there picking up on time no matter how early I had to get up.

    Now I am headed for Dallas, and like Army guy, my truck is due for service. I will get there Thursday, and put myself on Saturday's outbound board just to give the shop an extra day to fix anything else they find so I don't have to grab a loaner.

    how many miles per year can a good hand average (with luck included)? I mean a driver who takes minimum home time. Thanks.

    I did 134k or so and took about60-65 days off.

    Between my truck breakdowns and my DGAFF mood last year(no mile high club last year because I didn't give a flying f.....ornication) I still turned 115k and with the stop pay, 1 layover, and my hourly time I managed just under $60k (before they do their 'per diem' magic). So, even a total slacker can make a living here.

    Got a load Tuesday that delivered today in Taylor pa. This load had a two pickup backhaul attached to it. The pickups were in jersey and it sucked.

    First pickup was about a mile away from a huge wreck on i80 which was backed up miles and miles. Finally got around it and then my 2nd pickup was a normal jersey crap hole off of 95 in linden nj. Attached pic is the 2nd pickup where everyone has been to places like this buy they always suck. I hate them, nobody wants to give me my space lol.

    Delivers first thing Monday morning in Carrollton tx, will be about a 3300 mile trip in 6 days, not bad.

    One of the many reasons I HATE the northeast.

    I hear from a reliable source behind the glass in GP that they are proceeding with the SC plant finally. By the articles and reports I have read, it's going to be like Poly West is to the west coast...it'll be the main product supplier for the east coast. I hope they don't assign us FL drivers to that location and we have to do the northeast...that would suck.

    And lots of 100-400 mile loads if they run southeast customers out of there

    I know it'll whiz off a bunch of the longer term drivers that love the TX to N/E and back loop.

    There will still be some runs out of TX up that way since that plant won't make every product we sell, I'd imagine...but it'll be like the NW...far fewer runs than they have now.

    Well, it's SOSDD in GP as far as shipping. 1 driver this a.m. had a 5 a.m. ready time, at 11 he was told they are starting to load him. My load, suppose to be ready at 1400, said check back in 2-4 hrs, not even pulled yet...so I was fooled in July into believing that shipping had their problems resolved...of course I didn't pull many loads out of GP last month.
