Back in high school, a girl's parents bought her a brand new car for her 16th birthday. 15,000 miles later, her parents paid for a brand new engine for that brand new car, because she didn't know how to put the hood up, check the oil, or that the oil needed changing from time to time. Oops.

My first job was BEING one of those real "service station attendants" who would service your car or rig. gas or diesel, clean the windows (using a squeegee where you had to run them through rollers to squeeze the water out, if anyone remembers those!), check tires, oil, etc. I also fixed flats on split rims! I also learned that the term grease monkey came from doing a grease job on a diesel truck! You HAD to be a monkey to reach all the zerk fittings!!!! It was great job for a kid after school and on weekends!

Sounds like the girl a friend of mine worked with...offered her a deal, said she needed to change the air in her tires. Said it would cost $10/tire to take all the winter air out and put summer air in...she tried to negotiate a better deal, thought that was too expensive. He thought she was going to say she'll take it back to the guy who did it cheaper last year...but she didn't...and yes, she was mostly blonde.

I remember those. With today's volume of fuel being sold, they would have to have 20 or 25 pumps to keep up and not block traffic on the street
