Do you put load locks on loads of rolled paper stacked vertically?

They do walk backwards, and especially any that may be stacked, and especially on spring-ride trailers.

I've hauled paper rolls of all shapes and sizes, and the only ones I ever had on their sides, were loaded that way.
There isn't enough floor surface, even with the rubber mat, to hold the bottom still while the top falls. I've even hauled the small rolls that they double stacked a half dozen in the center and they never moved an inch.

I have had a few customers who had to have their rolls loaded on their side, and receiver rolled them off the truck..but it is rare, like 3 or 4 out of probably 75-80 paper loads.

I have had rolled paper hop backwards a few feet, but it takes a might bouncy road (and an air ride trailer with bad shocks). I even had a load of rolled Dorito's bags move backwards, but never all the way to the doors.

The reason I put a strap on the back roll...with my luck, I would get rookie day at the coops, and they would write me up for an unsecured load just for ink pen practice.

Yep still put mats down at least at corrstack in reading pa no need for load bar as it would be useless.

I don't even seal/lock the trailer doors. I'd love to see someone try to steal one.

I'd like someone to point me to where in the FMCSA book it directs truck drivers to "secure" the rear-most paper rolls in a closed van trailer. I'm not saying it doesn't make sense to do so in some situations where it's practical. I'm saying it is easier said then done, and I'm not aware of securement requirements for non haz-mat loads in a CLOSED van trailer.

This was all I found on a Google search. apparently it can be a violation? I never knew this.
