Sorry for the slow update. Week 2 is complete. Spent Thursday and Friday on the road driving. Each of us drove for about 2 hours each day. We got a good variety of road and traffic situations. Felt like I did pretty well. I learned a ton and am looking forward to being back out there driving next week. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend![]()

Week 3 has started. After taking a 3 day weekend due to the holiday, we were back out on the road today. Ran a giant circle from Trenton through Cincy, over to Chillicothe, up to Columbus, to Dayton, back to Cincy and finally back to Trenton. Tomorrow we are doing some city driving. Things are going well and everyday I am getting more comfortable with driving the truck. Looking forward to finishing up this week, orientation next week and then finally getting out on the road with my trainer starting on the 21st.
SHOJim and JOHNQPUBLIC Thank this. -
How do they handle the CDL test? What happens if you fail your first time?
-
You go out with your trainer and at some point during that, you go back through your home state and do the test. I think they give you 3 chances to pass it.
JOHNQPUBLIC, 59EX and SHOJim Thank this. -
Ya if go anywhere besides the Wisc school they will route you back to your home state during your time with your trainer to take the CDL test. However if you go to the Wisc school you test right there at the school and before going out with your trainer you will have your CDL. This just changed in July.

3 times to pass it but after going thru the school(least in WISC where I am currently) you should pass. Very good training

So anywhere you are from, if you attend WI school you test out there for CDL? How does it work transferring license to home state etc....or is this only for WI residents who happen to attend there?
-
You test in your home state.JOHNQPUBLIC Thanks this.

Yes you test in Wisc no matter where you are from. The laws changed in July to allow this federally. I'm from IL took my test at the school with an independent tester, and he sends the info back to the IL Sec of State and I went to the DMV and picked up hard copy of my new CDL. Like I said this is all brand new federal law. Myself from IL and another guy from IN did it like thi . Also next class has couple guys from NY and it is going to work same way. No matter the state you live in you will test at the school on course you've trained on and then just go to your home state pay whatever the cost is and pick up your CDL. No test needed from your home state any longer.

Not anymore. Federal law changed in July
