The company I was at hauled car parts. We were empty going out and loaded with usually less than 10k pounds coming back. On paper, everything looked great. In the real world, it's just too much gear especially for the 40,000 pound loads I've been hauling. I've been looking at gear swaps. I just haven't decided on a gear yet. I was thinking 3.55 but I'm wondering what that would put my rpm at at 70mph. I don't want it turning 1800rpm at 70. The sweet spot on mine with these gears is about 74. Any lower and my fuel mileage drops and it doesn't run as smooth.

74? Why not drop a gear and run slower?

57 is a little low. But you won't Ebert get good fuel running 70 or higher.

If you are set on getting rid of it, then I agree that you shouldn't dump any money into it that you won't get back at the sale, or in fuel savings before the sale.
