Maybe these trucks are picking up or delivering before you get to the bridge, or using a road that turns off before the bridge. The road might not have a weight limit, just the bridge. So if they aren't going far enough to cross the bridge, I'd say it's legal to use up to the point of the bridge.

Interesting sign, but it makes me wonder how long that bridge is? IOW, if the bridge is only 20' long you would only have one axle set at a time on it, so then you could go over if you were 12,000/14,000/14,000

Or am I reading way too much into it? The sign just seems confusing to me, if it is a short bridge and you were weighed as my example I don't see how you could get a ticket if you never had more than 14,000 on the bridge at any one time???

don't know what bridge he's talking about or where it's at.

i know of a road in GA though, that has 3 bridges like that. the bridges are short, only 1 axle/S will fit on it. and trucks drive that road 24/7/365.

In a few areas, you will see roads marked like that with the fine print "without permit". However if you buy a permit, you can run it all you want.

A lot of places that don't have the money to maintain a bridge just keep reducing the weight limit on it. It might have been a good bridge at one time, and the locals know it could handle it so they keep using it anyway.

There's a bridge on one of the lettered highways in Missouri that posts a 15 mph speed limit for trucks to cross.

wrong since you would still be violating the 5 ton per axle limit.

The weight limit does not apply to the entire road, just the section 15 miles ahead.
