is the reset an automatic each week or only when you hit the magic 70, no matter if it is 7 days or takes 10? Do you technically get a "day off" each week due to the reset rule?

    Thanks for the replies!

If you hit 70, you have to do a 34 hour reset.

I just hit 70 and can drive today on my recap. A reset is NEVER mandatory.
A reset is always at the discretion of the driver. Apply it to your situation. Sometimes the recap will work in your favor... sometimes the reset will benefit you.

It will vary. You have 70/8... or 60/7. If you exhaust that , then you have to examine your options for the next day and one half.

Jammer is correct. In the old days we didn't have a reset option, you had to run off your recap.

You can work 70 hours within 8 days. If you run out of hours before 8 days u have to sit.
Example 14hrs a day times 5 days is 70 hrs.

    Recap.
On the 9th day you gain the hours you use on the first day for that 8 day period.

Technically u can work about 8 hours a day forever and never need a reset. 8 hrs a day times 8 days is 64, so u still have 6 hours to spare.

At first recap was confusing to me also.

How I understand it is basically you can't go over 70hrs in any consecutive 8 days. Day 9 is just another day 8 (days 2-9) if you don't reset.

So if at the end of day 8 you have 2 hours left of your 70 (68 total hours driven) and day 1 you drove for 9 hours, then on day 9 you could run 11 hours and you would hit exactly 70 hours for the last 8 days. Then on day 10 you could only drive whatever you drove on day 2.

    Recap:

Add up all on duty/driving time for the previous 7 days. Subtract that total from 70.

The result is how much on duty/drive time you have to work with today.
