Yep, seen a few like yourself over the years that thought pulling a dryvan or reefer was simple. Then you catch them with the top peeled open because it was so simple they didn't worry about underpasses. You need to understand there is a certain amount of difficulty in every job, and all truckers no matter what trailer they are pulling has a great deal of responsibility on their shoulders. Hope you find what your looking for, but since you don't want to be in the cold you might think about a dispatcher position.
Just Got my CDL, is Tanker the best path -> Tanker/Hazmat?

As always Chinatown you make these forums. Thank you for the sound advice and to everyone else had well meaning suggestions.
I looked up Trimac, they are one hour away.
Hopkinsville less than an hour.
Gonna cross my fingers and go make a good impression.
Thanks ChinatownChinatown Thanks this. -
The tankers that I have talked to really like the pneumatic tankers carrying plastic pellets.
-
That's right. A&R Logistics hauls those plastic pellets and you don't need tanker or hazmat endorsements.

Pulling tankers is the easiest truckingjobs ever... Especially petroleum... You gotta be more than careful on curves obviously.. but it's pretty simple. My suggestion if you not too afraid is haul gasoline, or apply with an oil field trucking company and learn how to operate vacuum trucks... Easy money, no stress express, decent home times, usually at home daily..

I appreciate the input. Driving these large heavy trucks is never simple. I meant there was more to the non driving portion. I'm married with 4 children and while I might be younger than you, I am not a young man.
I would be a dispatcher but then I would have to listen to your incessant whining about younger drivers and 'the good ol days' when horses pulled your wagon.Lepton1, Bob Dobalina and mountaingote Thank this. -
It isn't what type of trailer you pull that's hard, it's the lifestyle you have to change to become a truck driver. I can grab a tanker and pull it across the states and figure out how to hook up the hoses and fall off the catwalk. I can grab a flatbed and pull out the little green book and figure out securement.
So don't say van is too easy cause you haven't even pull one around chicago around 95th st, or even jump on the parkway in nyc. Now pulling a tanker around those places? Man now that's easy.
Not insulting u brother but I thought van was easy at first, I thought driving in a strange line was easy. Remember, nobody is going to promise you anything and if they do they're lying. You could work Monday to Friday. ...and on Friday hit heavy traffic or weather and have to come home Saturday morning or evening and leave Monday again. Shipper can hold you for hours, and receive can just refuse u. So many variables that Noone can promise u home for 2 full days. -
You aren't insulting me, there are just things I don't know. I'm ok with it and I'm ok with someone explaining it.
I want something that is more specialized than dry van and is paid for it.enicolasy Thanks this. -
Can't go wrong with tanker work, driver. I've been at it for over two years and love it I've hauled oil, chemicals, and now gasoline/ diesel and if I can help it won't ever go back to reg freight.
