Who gives a crap about miles. It's about money. which truck makes more money, the truck running 5k miles a week at 1.50 or the truck running 3500 @ 2.25? Add long as you are stuck in the miles mentality you will fall to achieve your potential.

Most of the long haul stuff that pays worth anything is few and far between.

Awesome, so instead of coming here to offer information...you came to be combative and argue and tell me how I'll never make it?

I make 1.12 a mile and can still run a profitable operation, if I can make it here, I can make it anywhere because I have the drive and work ethic to succeed. I was asking about length of haul for a ####ing reason, not just because I see things as per mile fixed pricing. I understand how revenue works, I come from a family of owner operators!! Two of which haul flatbed. I threw straps on a flatbed before I even had my cdl. I can't stand jaded drivers like you always looking for a reason to #### on newer drivers....

Yes driver, I have always been paid per mile, but I understand how revenue works, I was asking about length of haul because it figures into alot of things besides just cost.

Our cross country rates are a little better than 1.12 but if you came and grabbed every 1.20-1.45 load cross country then rates will never increase. I've seen 2.00 mile cross country also but it's rare.

I understand this, I'm not looking for cross country freight. I actually prefer 1200-1800 mile loads.

That would allow me to load, strap, tarp and get on the road, then she can drive all night and I can usually deliver the next day, rinse and repeat. I don't ask for length of haul because I'm concerned with enough "miles" for revenue, I'm concerned with being able to organize my time, make a decent wage and stay moving.

I don't want to haul cheap freight any more than you guys do. I hate what my company pays now, but to me, it beats being a company driver with an auto and a drive cam in my face.

At least as a L/O I can choose my hometime, refuse loads if they suck or are short and heavy or whatever, I can control my revenue and maintenance and keep my operation profitable.

I feel that if I can learn to work within this giant company' system.... I can learn mercers, and be profitable there.

As an aside, are there really people hauling flat deck for 1.40-1.60 a mile??
That's cheaper than my dad gets when he has to haul a CHR load!

You will never ever average 5000-6000 miles a week here. You cannot always stay pre booked here, There are times when you find yourself sitting, sometimes for many days.

When you run for miles, then all loads are average. When you run for % you find out there are bad loads average loads good loads and great loads. That is why the successful guys on this board talk about revenue!

I understand that when you make ~2.00 per mile you don't need to run 6k. Like I said, I prefer not to.... but we are really comfortable running around 4,500.

I understand that revenue means what you made this week, or this month, or annually...not how many miles you ran.

My original question was whether mercer is viable for teams (even running supersolo, as I mentioned earlier). Or whether I'm going to be better off running expedited freight somewhere else.

If you want to run hard and run a lot of miles, Then Mercer is not for you. Like I said, you can not always be pre booked and you will find yourself sitting.
