    Hey yall,

Im new to all this, been working in the oil field for the past few years and I am ready to make a change. Used to being away from the family but hate working for THE MAN. Here is my plan and any help and or insight will be welcomed... and I expect to get bashed but... oilfield... lol yeah.

Last hitch with my company is beginning of November. We got a new baby due in December and I plan on going to driving school starting in January and then going out.

Like I mention, I don't want to work for the man... ive started a business, registered with the state, got the ein number and did all the research on an authority. Ive been reading ALOT about basically anyone who starts like that will fail... so input would be nice.

plan b is to get with a company and do a LP with them... I realize that I would be throwing away money while paying for the truck, but getting my wife to let me finance a truck with plan a is gonna be... difficult
thoughts on good companies to LP with that pay higher percentages. I live on the MS coast so theres that

Plan C is to go the co driver route, but that just grinds my gears cause id like to pick and choose loads and make as much money as I possibly can

eventual intention in to get a second truck and hire a driver and so forth and so on...

so yeah... any thought or comments or concerns would be appreciated!

with a new baby on the way, do you want to straddle yourself in a possible bankruptcy situation.??

get a job, earn money, pay the bills, you will need health benefits, as babies get sick a lot.

    good luck.

Just curious, how much do you make working on the oil rig?

With a wife and a baby, having health insurance is going to be critical so factor that cost in if you go on your own. I went through a bunch with both my kids when they where young. I was so glad we had health insurance.

roadmap65 and Joe De Artay Thank this.

My base salary is in the 130's. I work 28/28 and this thing could blow up any minute. guess a driver could crash anytime too but still...
I have about 25k in savings
really I want the opportunity to be my own boss and see the country
I can deal with the insurance once she goes back to work insurance will be taken care of

True... but have you seen the price of diesel lately
low prices of oil means fewer and fewer jobs and people here are getting cut left and right... only a matter of time... NO ONE is hiring in the oil drilling industry at the moment... but people ALWAYS need food

well if you want to be your own boss, and make it on your own, you may not be home all too often, did you even think of that..??

what that means is, your kid will grow up and you will miss out on many things.

you take for granted your wife will go back to work, what if she cannot, like they fire her.>??

    you say you have savings...??

you gonna use some of that for school, then buying a truck..??

you ain't gonna have much left.

you really ain't thinking things through.

Work there until u get laid off or fired. Your family would appreciate it. Coming into trucking, even a l/p is hard without experience....many fail

Truck freight is slowing down too, the truckstops seem fuller at all times of the day.
Then you have the truckers that hauled oil well supplies hauling general freight now, and oil workers are becoming truckers,
Look up @freightwipper , he's the expert on leasing here.
And I hope we start a war real quick to get oil back up to $150
