What I get out of that pic is 1 full turn after the gasket touches .

What's this number thing your talking about .

    It clearly states

    1 oil gasket
2 spin on filter with hand till gasket come into contact
3 one full turn after that .

Not to hard to figure out or I'm I missing something

I don't know why they put those numbers on there, maybe as a reference point. I use fleetgaurd which has the same instruction, but does not have numbers going around the filter. Turn until the gasket touches the base, then look for a mark on the filter to use as a reference point and tighten till you see the same mark come around again. So if your looking at the number 1 mark on your filter tighten it till it comes around again to the same spot it was when the filter touched the base.

Lol I think you're right, after 20 years of doing this #### I took it to mean go to the next number (+1)
Anyway, I've always done it as tight as I think it should go

Tighten until gasket touches +1 additional turn is how I've always seen it.

I just tighten till tight, same as installing plugs in a gas engine. Don't see all the need for it to be rocket science.

That particular filter requires a full turn, this is why they put the instructions there. Hand tight plus 1 turn, the numbers are only for a reference point. On filters that require 3/4 turn, they will have the instructions at each number telling you what number to turn to. Some filters use letters.

The thing I think most people are missing here is that the numbers count down when you're tightening. If you're at #1 and its says to tighten to #2, it's actually 3/4 turn.

I was with Scuba intell I had problems with S60 filters leaking that way. Hand tight for the ex-football player, (300 lbs +) and the ex marine ( 165? lbs ) is not the same even though they were equally tough. OZ if you have done it your way for 20 years do not change. My big problems with the contact plus are 1st: Is who and how is contact being judged? 2nd: A lot of the equipment here you have to look over the top of the frame to see the marks but have to be below to turn the filter. 3rd: Then how does one instruct an employee to go out in the field and do that alone? Policy here is check oil PSI gauges and lights before service.Wipe the filter base off to be sure it is clean and the old gasket is not stuck to the housing. Oil the gasket and fill the filter at least 1/2 full in less it is horizontal ( full flow only, no need to fill by-pass filter). Use a band type wrench that a 1/2" drive fits. Only turn by hand which is slightly tighter than hand tight for a normal person. Start it be sure it has pressure and after some time run the engine to max RPM. If there is some problem I want to see it before it leaves. When one was tightened up by a moron we started looking at records and asking the moron to remove it. I did learn something from a moron, when the wrench is crushing the filter put one wrench at the top of the filter and one at the bottom.

Sounds nuts , but slap the snot out of the side of the filter , be for trying to remove it. That helps break it seal at the gasket. That is most times makes the filter hard to remove. Hope this helps.

In my personal vehicles I've always used a socket style thingy to take the filter off , but I got one of the slick looking channel pliers looking pliers for filters from a Pilot, I can't wait to use it. #topic
