Deep tread does have the advantage of throwing mud all over.

I would not endorse wider tires for slippery. I was simply responding to the post before on technical ideas, and badly. What I really meant to say was that there are other important factors to consider all of which you guys mentioned, such as depth ,cut and compound.

And really the driver in question can do far more by just driving properly for equipment and conditions. IMO (unless its just junk)

Just throwing some ideas out there that aren't too far fetched.
My other idea was space-borne, solar charged lasers that reflect concentrated microwaves back down to ice spots on Terra Firma and obliterate that frozen moisture.

Ah, to be back in CA and dealing with a drought that scares everyone to death.

Colorado's closed folks, the snow drift at the state line should have told you so.........and if the road your on is open, chains are recommended, even in Denver proper.

ROFL! So does this mean that CDOT is just overwhelmed, or are they all working the mountains? I got into a similar situation back in the 90's out east of Denver. At least I was able, (by good fortune,) to jump off the interstate and take a frontage road that dumped me out into the truck stop there. I believe it was a Tomahawk at Watkins.
The parking lot was a slushy mess, and of course when it got colder, there were a bunch of rigs that were actually frozen in place. I had kept mine moving backward and forward just a few feet every half hour or so. When the highway reopened, I was ready to go, along with most of the others. But there were several that were frozen in place.

It was a pretty massive storm, 70 was closed Denver to Kansas, was closed almost 24 hrs, 76 was closed Denver to Nebraska, was closed about 16 hrs, most everything on the plains was closed. It was blowing/drifting/ground blizzard conditions that were the problem, today it's black ice and ice.

Yeah I was stuck in Sidney NE for 20 some odd hours. It was open to Cheyenne and many drivers on the CB wanting to go but we were hearing Cheyenne was packed with trucks parked up on the interstate. I kept checking that Wyoroad website that Joseph put up and slowly sections that were closed were starting to open up. Popped one more DVD in and when the movie was over the website said clear all the way across WY

there is no need to sit on the highway in the next wreck
because the idiots think they are on a nascar restart
the load is already late another hour isn't going to fix it
