I use my first name with my DM's, and begin with the truck number in the off hours with strangers.

I'll be getting a new truck in the next month or so, so I'll be using both name and number until they associate them together again.
Not very many people have my name, so it shouldn't take long.

But it should not be a surprise that the truck number is mentioned first in a company the size of Swift.
Each DM is responsible for 50+ drivers, and there are over 15,000 drivers. Just keeping 50 names associated with the correct truck number is difficult.
And it is the truck number that is entered in the computer to bring you up on the screen.

What kind of IQ or mindset do you have to have to be a driver.Have you had your CB on lately. It's pretty low out there. It's know wonder carriers are putting driver facing cameras in their trucks

Well, I can't argue that point very much.

Except to point out what I have already pointed out, that it is not a problem exclusive to driving a truck.
It is more related to the younger generations that have grown up in the social media environment.
They seem to have an obsession with 'being out there', showing everyone (anyone) what they are doing as they are doing it with no regard to who is actually watching them.

The person sitting at the desk answers the phone and asks for truck number first thing, as you tell them the number they are inputting that into the keyboard and the driver's info comes up. They can see the location of the truck, the messages that were sent recently and HOS status. Even when they know your name, they still ask for your truck number because it is the quickest way to bring you up on the computer.
