    At this point I'm over it. The big power Pete,local job at $38.00/hr is nice but it took nearly 40 yrs and a clean record to get there. Its just another truck job. Happy Trails hand.

    Jonny1 Thanks this.

    I don't make even close to that kind of hourly rate, but I'm local, very predictable schedule and great benefits. The company I work for allows me to be the captain of the ship and I no longer feel pressured to roll, like when I was over the road.

    JReding and okiedokie Thank this.

    With that big $ comes extensive backround checks(federal)and driving in a high security area. So it's not exactly a P&D gig.

    My level of satisfaction has gone from, "its killing me," to ,"this is nice," and three days ago, it rose to, "oh #### yeah."

    I added one of those 8" thick memory foam mattresses. I was finding ways to sneak back home just to sleep before this thing!

    There are parts of trucking I enjoyed. Then there were parts I hated. One of the main reasons I no longer drive is those I hated become more then the ones I enjoyed.

    Love it.
    Have to.
    I don't think the 9-5 thing would have me back.

    For me it's like any other job. You have great days where everything goes great then you have them days where your pulling your hair out. My first year of driving I was in love with it just happier than a pig in #### to be driving a peterbilt I got a lot of excitement as my skills progressed a lot of pride at some of the places I've backed my rig through you get out of your thinking your a super trucker but the excitement wears off and it turns into just another day at the job

    What company do you work for? I'm moving from Chicago to Phoenix and I'm finding there's not much local work as there is here and the pay is usually a joke.

    ::points to tolleson:

    Craaaappp ton of locals out there if you were to drive around and look.

    No Chicago indeed. But there is work to be had.

    I enjoy it until I lift up my unceran wrapped stacks of tortillas and get it off center on a bread roller. I do it two or three times a week. Ack!!!

    Driving an auto took the fun out of it otr so I went local and do like 10 different things to make money. Got these tiny ### Detroit & Mercedes engines soooo lots of shifting and fun driving.
