Just curious if anyone out there drives without all the technology we have these days. Does anyone just use a road atlas and not worry about having a dash cam for accidents?

I'm asking this for a few reasons mainly because i'm not sure i will have the money to buy a good gps at first until i get some decent checks coming in. I will have at least a road atlas for sure to start.

I have both. I know not all drivers have dashcam and seen a few without gps.

It's not really necessary to have but makes trip planning easier. And gps is just an insurance

All I had when I started OTR was a map and a desire to learn. The company gave me a book from NTS to find the fuel stops and off I went. I learned a lot from talking to other drivers and some I learned by good old fashioned personal experience. You will be fine!

I don't have either. Unless you count my phone. Don't use it much though.

I just look up addresses on my phone, haven't bought a gps and don't plan on it. I do have an atlas that I use occasionally.

I use company provided gps that is a program on the Omnitracs system. However, I rarely use it farther out than 20 miles from my destination. Otherwise, I use my trusty motor carriers atlas.

No dash cam yet, but I have thought about it.

Well an Atlas doesn't give you street turn by turn so if you're an OTR guy not using a GPS then you will need state, county, city maps to find those cross streets. (Who carries all that for 48 states??) That's always fun but we just memorize the highway routes and then Google for the local route
