New to the forum, im sure this has been discussed and i appologize for that. I am just looking for an answer more specific to my situation. Im currently attending Roadmaster in San Antonio Tx, ive already been "pre-hired", at Werner, Stevens, US Xpress, and Covenant. Those are the companies that recruit directly from my school. I have also applied at Schneider, Prime, and JB Hunt on my own. Already got approved at Prime, and have a phone interview with Schneider tomorrow. So far im leading towards Werner because from what ive been told, id be able to come home every week and average 50-55k, depending on which account im on (dollar general or family dollar). But i know what im told is not always what reality will be. My main issue is i have a wife and two young kids (2 and 8 ) and would REALLY like to be home every week! Id be willing to sacrifice and stretch it out to every two weeks for the right opportunity. I guess my question is, what is a good company to start with, that pays well, and brings me home often, preferably weekly (ATLEAST every two weeks)? All opinions and advice are welcome, thanlks in advance.

Did they tell you what's involved with the Family dollar and dollar general accounts? You will be unloading the whole trailer by hand to stores....

    Lots of work involved...

Good luck with whichever company you decide to go with.

Ask Schneider if there's an intermodal yard near you, it's regional thing, out 5 home 2. Or ask if you can do regional in van which I think it's 7 out 3 back...or 2 back not sure.

J B Hunt seems to be running a completely different operation than the other mega carriers. For home time, you probably couldn't do any better.

well my main concern is making sure my family is well provided for. Id go OTR, but only if the pay makes it worth it. If i can make say 800 week and be home every week, or make 900 week and be gone for 3-4 weeks at a time, thats not really worth it to me. But if i was told i can come out and make say 1200/week if i would go OTR, id probably do it.

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.

If you don't mind putting in that type of work that might work for you... I think them guys get a couple nights a week at home... Maybe someone who has done it before will chime in and help you with info.

You will get some good backing practice in with a lot of them stores...
