The thing I don't like about ups is that they are very strict. They have rules for everything, and they micromanage everything you do. If you can deal with that, it's a good job. But that's not for me, I like more freedom

What's your life like on a daily basis as an OTR driver? .[/QUOTE]

Living out of a bag. Brushing teeth and poooping in public restrooms daily. Sleeping in a truck whereever you can legally and sometimes illegally park. Waking up and wondering what state you're in. Making a 1 foot subway sandwich last 2 days til payday. Carrying in your laundry only to find out all three machines are broke down. Putting your quarters in the billiards table only to find out someone stole all the balls.

Yeah I went for a year and decided to drive. I already kinda knew I was going to, because my family has a small company. Without growing up with trucks around me I probably would not have became a driver until I am older.

Not until year 2-3, even then most don't make that. I consider my company to be one of the more reputable companies where miles are plentiful, top rate insurance/benefits and better than average pay. That being said, I make 68k a year. Its taken four years to get to this point.

My first two I made less than 35 and worked harder than I do now.

Life driving a truck is ground hogs day. The days blend together. If you're not diligent about your health, you'll feel like you've aged ten years in five years.

The biggest benefit... I'm single, no kids and 34 years old. My biggest monthly bill is 200 bucks for my phone/truck internet bill. I average 1k a week after taxes, so can save 2500 a month easily and still do whatever I want financially. If I'm in council bluffs Iowa, and wanna spend the weekend playing poker, I'll do so. If I'm in Denver, and wanna ski for a couple of days I'll take time off, rent a car, and head towards the slopes.

As far as your truck goes... I take pride in having a nice truck. My goal is that when I close my front curtains, I'm as comfortable in my truck as I am at the house. Between my macbook, tablet, phone, tv I have plenty of stuff to keep me busy. Life on the road is what you make it.

Yes, they hire new cdl grads. Sometimes the websites aren't up to date and will have "xyz experience required" so ignore that and apply anyway.
US Express has lots of dedicated accounts such as delivering to Dollar General Stores, but I wouldn't do it. Driver has to unload at each store and that can get rough in hot weather with no place to shower before your next stop. @three jayz
