Well as we all know there are a lot of stories of people making it and not making it in trucking, but is there anybody here who has successfully left the transportation industry and gotten certification in a vocation or a degree into another field making similar or more money?

    I did the opposite.

Got a college degree in visual communication (parents dream). Worked at Discovery Channel making a good salary...hated my life, got a CDL (my childhood dream), yrs later, my own authority. Livin the dream.

I got off the road from 93 to 96 and worked for the county I live in as a truck driver , good pay and benefits but hated the polictal bs , backstabbing boss and a union that protected the lazy ...was miserable.

when you get in the industry and your life style gets better it is tough to get out. took 30 years for me to get out. I don't make nearly as much money that I am used to. but I didn't put myself so far in debt that I couldn't do it. I went to work as I cdl instructor. my blood pleasure is down, I am home every night and I go home with a smile. don't miss the road at all. and I surely don't miss all the steering wheel holders. know I have the opportunity to put some drivers out there that know what there doing.

Can't give you a story there. I can't see myself doing anything else right now, I see so many people doing the 9-5 thing that look miserable to me.

I quit once for 6 months, but I am thinking about starting a program to help drivers quit completely, kind of like AA.

Friend of mine born & raise in a truck, he was really succesfull O/O he got tired of battling for decent rates and chasing his dough.....good for him he has good hand and good brain he is now building small aircraft and sell them.

Next it will be my turn after almost 25 years in the cell...
