Yet another plz help thread

With the needs that you presented I would look at a different career that actually paid a decent income. I think you will struggle mightily being a trucker. Why pick a career that starts you off living week to week? Doing almost anything else will offer more security and money.

How do you look at Low pay, living in a truck smaller than a jail cell, very little home time and ask, where do I sign up for that in a world so big with so many better opportunities.

 

If you just can't wait then try CTL Transportation or Prime Inc.

Don't know if Twiss Transport will work with you or not; worth a phone call though.
The fastest way is probably with Swift. You're not required to stay after graduation and if you choose to leave they send a bill in the mail to you. You could do that, then set up orientation with CTL Transportation to start as soon as you graduate.
I think Prime has the best setup for pay though. Don't know the details, but something like $650 or $750 weekly while training.

 

Eager- the struggle is real man. I feel u. I'm 24 with a faince, a baby and a 5 year old stepson all living off my check. It's not easy but if you think u will enjoy it and it's in your blood go for it. Just know it won't be easy at first. Training wages will be less than great and then comes learning the ropes of driving which is a huge stress. Getting home weekly and making good money isn't easy let me tell ya. But I have no idea what the climate is down in fl. If I were u I would get on with a long haul reefer outfit that can get u 3000 miles a week on average. The hometime...not weekly more like monthly but it will help u build up your finances and your experience. As for becoming an o/o I'd strongly advise waiting at least a year until u have the driving part down and your not working about fuel and truck payments on top of everything else. Have u tried asking your uncle to team drive? If he has his own truck u could use it to take ur cdl skills test and go on the road with him

 

Prime would be my choice as long as a 62 mph truck is OK with u lol. But I believe they like u to stay out 3 weeks. I looked into them once upon a time there may office in Springfield, MO is only a couple hours away from my house.

 

If I were u I would take my test in his truck that way u don't have to go through a company cdl "school" they could just maybe put u in a truck with a trainer. Trust me the schools r a waste of time a buddy of mine is a trainer and he said guys come out of school and barely know how to start the truck lol

 

Problem is it's very hard to be hired without that CDL diploma. There's posts on here often "I got my cdl on my own and now no company will hire me. What should I do?"
Insurance companies won't cover a driver that hasn't received formal training. Doesn't matter if the school is good or not, insurance companies want to see that diploma. There's a school in Miami that's only 40 hours and I think CRST is the only company that will hire the students. That's probably because CRST has their own cdl training program and willing to give them further training OJT.
