My husband just got out of trucking school a month ago. We're having trouble finding him a job, he went to Schneider's training but was sent home for getting a 70% on a test, which I think was bs.

But we want to find a company we could get him into that they are not too picky, and still get good miles/pay.

Any input would be appreciated :)

Swift is a good place to look. They are still treating me ok and I get the miles.

He'll have to go through 6 weeks of training with a mentor, but with a good mind set he'll make it through.

Pay any where just starting out is gonna suck (.26 per mile to start), but with that said you get 5 raises in the first year with Swift.

Swift isn't for everyone, but they have been treating me really good so all I can honestly say is that you BOTH should talk to the recruiter about any concerns and ask your questions.

    Hope this helps.

Good post and advice. I am one who can care less for Swift based on the run in's I have had with 99% of the drivers there other then that again good advice.

Have your hubby look into TMC, Maverick, I here they are good to start off with. Lisa Motor Lines was good back in 03 I dont know how they do now. From what I understand Schneider is like that with people. 70% is BS thats a passing score. Just keeping looking ans ask questiones and if you can head down to the truck stop and talk with drivers...Dont just go with what the recruiters tell you, some of them will lie their ###'S OFF.

Good luck in finding a job and welcome to the Truckers Report

The comment about starting pay is true . "Not Picky " and good starting pay just don't go together . The better the pay , the more applicants , and the pickier the carrier can be . Accept what you can get the first year or two . Then start looking around .

a company thats easy to get into?

Keep in mind that a company that is easy to get into is sometimes hard to get out of....:biggrin_2554: There usually is a reason why they are easy to get into. Companies like that tend to have a way of making drivers bail from the industry.

Here's just an update on the whole Swift thing.

Please believe me when I say "it's just a matter of time".

Once you get out of that transitional phase (after the 6 weeks training the trainee goes on to a transitional Driver Manager to help you get used to policies and such) and on to a "regular" Driver Manager, things start getting real interesting.

Remember that song "Time is on my side"? Yeah.. I'm singing it everyday now.

Let's just keep it at that.

Your comments here seem rather cryptic, especially compared to your endorsement of Swift in same thread. Did something happen in between posts to sour you on Swift?

Those two don't really go together as pointed out above. Easy to get on with hire anybody....low pay.

Get on with someone, get some miles, be safe and market yourself.
