Could be, but they first have to figure out if I have a portable generator. Highly remote. The box it is enclosed in an even operates in looks like any average cargo box. Unless I opened my mouth and mentioned using one to a DOT, little chance they are going to dig around looking for one. Then they would have to determine if it is actually used on the truck or am just transporting it. After all, it is portable and not permanently secured except for riding in the box. With all they have to look for, my generator isn't even a blip on the radar.

I ended up going with this generator
    http://www.amazon.com/Champion-Powe...&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/DURAMAX-Flo...927421?hash=item5b24d4757d:g:eecAAOxyg7xSZ-u4

Remote wireless start, eco mode and runs 70 hours on 14 gallon fuel caddy with 6k btu AC.
http://www.sylvane.com/friedrich-cp06g10-window-air-conditioner.html mounted in top bunk area through back wall. It is a chassis unit so was easier to mount, and it was setup for either wall or window mount. I tried a 8k portable single hose unit and I just wasn't impressed so took it back and got the wall unit. I mounted it like skateboard and it takes up less cabin area.

I do not use 1.6 gallon fuel tank that is on the unit, I plumbed the 14 gallon fuel caddy through 1/4 fuel line into the factory fuel cut off switch with quick disconnect in the line from caddy. When I need fuel, I unstrap it from the catwalk and roll fuel caddy over to the gasoline side and fill it up.

    Generator 850
    Fuel Caddy 120
    6000 BTU AC 300
1270.00 Generator is very quiet. Generator and the AC have 2 yr warranties.

I like it. Nothing in the book about carrying a generator on the truck that is not even running.

I thought this was talked about before, on this thread or another. But I seem to remember as long as the gas gen has a fuel shutoff valve it's perfectly legal.

EU3000i is $2000 at Northern Tools.

I have mine perminantly bolted inside a box. The box when closed has a lock on it.

And besides that.. one person is not stealing it. It weighs something like 250 - 275lbs. I made the mistake of thinking it weighed much less when I grabbed it to lift it into the box. They will need a hand cart or something with wheels to carry it away.

Nothing is off limits to a thief. I've had mine for over a year now. Its paid for itself over and over by not having to idle my truck. Its much quieter than any APU and most other generators out there.

Pricey compared to the cheaper construction style generators. But they do not have built in voltage regulation and built in inverter to mimick exactly the same thing as household current. Safe for all electronics. Depending on the load.. mine can run for 18 - 20hrs on a full tank. Powers my fridge, grill, hot plate, microwave, 8500 btu A/C, laptop, TV, infrared space heater, pretty much anything I plug in to it.

Other than changing the oil.. I've done nothing to mine. I keep telling myself I need to change the spark plug. Or at least clean it. Runs like a champ in all kinds of weather and altitudes.

Worth every penny in my opinion. I dont even know its on when I'm in the sleeper. Other than an occational surge when the a/c kicks on and off.. I have no idea its there.

Dry wheight is 134LB, for your generator.
I don't believe it will go over 150LB with gas full. Look it up.
Maybe you wheight the box too. But the thief will leave the box alone. They may have a problem with the lock, but the box will stay.
