Ironically every insulation load I've hauled which was either Firestone or hunter panel never called for a smoke tarp and I guess I've been lucky with plastic pipe because that also never called for a smoke tarp. I've used it three times alone in one year which was two pipe loades and one small pallet. Other than that I've only used it for front and end flaps but after my last experience doing that I said I'd never haul a 8ft tarp load unless I carried 8ft tarps.

I know what you mean , I cleaned out my truck since put my 2 weeks notice in - In just 1 year at Melton I've acquired a massive amount of extras. It's all in my garage, I just have the equipment Melton gave me now from when I started and I'm getting by just fine. Makes me wonder if I need so much stuff all the time but I know when I pick up my truck I'll putt all that stuff right back in .

I agree with you on putting the sliding winches over the tires. I have 2- 4" portable hand winches I use. I have seen the stake pocket winches but never had a chance to talk to anybody about them.

I used to carry a lot of extra stuff around until the powers to be above me decided to have me change out trailers each week. It entered my mind that if I haven't used it for a while it's history.

I don't think requiring a headache rack or headboard is unreasonable. Especially when you are told that upfront. Things constantly change , always have and always will. Its a content adapt and change. The regulations haven't changed drastically, the hours of service have been there, they just have tweaked them. Its nothing it hasn't always been. I just change. And adapt, go with the flow. It is eld or what exactly that has made you decide to pack it in?

Nothing like that, I've been using eld for about 8 years now. Basically, I don't enjoy any of it anymore, when I go to the truck I get nauseated, I have no desire to spend one more minute in a truck. In 24 years I've missed plenty in our lives and I'm just sick of it and made a committment a few months ago that no matter what, I will not step back in this business after the first of the year. I'd like for the truck to sell, but like I said I will park it in my garage for eternity. We have had long term financial security for a long time, yet I have still chosen to be gone and away from loved ones by choice, which is really unexplainable other than its what I've always done. Hopefully it will come sooner than the end of the year, I'm no old timer, but I'm clearly from a bygone era of this business.

You should have flagged him down, he's got money falling out of both pockets. Maybe you could have grabbed some of it then out ran him.
