One thing that grinds my gear is we are one out of a few LTL carriers left that don't have a smoking policy. I know FXF and CWF (XPO) doesn't allow their drivers to smoke in their truck.. yeah, sometimes when we slip seats it feels like you are sitting in an ashtray.

They say the biggest critics of smokers are former smokers.... so true.

Nothing like hopping into one of our internationals and the cup holder is ashed up black tar. Have to clean it before I drive just to sit my stuff on it.

    Rocks Thanks this.

Dayton doesn't have an anti-smoking policy either. But there aren't too many drivers who still smoke. Some vape, but a ton of us are ex-smokers.

One thing that helped me quit was a huge increase on health insurance premiums for smokers at my last job. It was the last straw for me.

I hate when my truck is down and I have to hop into one of our ashtrays, but at the same time I don't want to ban smoking in our trucks because I remember the deal. Luckily we don't have too many rolling ashtrays in the fleet at my barn.

I smoke in my truck, but still manage to keep it clean. The ashtray gets sucked out when I vacuum the floor, which is done every time I get fuel.

Good for you Mack. At least you keep your work area clean.

I found some nasty crap inside of our trucks. Spit bottles, perishable half eaten food that was left for a 3-day weekend in a hot truck, ect....

Best story I heard came from our sister terminal. New hire linedriver slipped seats with a senior P&D driver. The line guy was a heavier set and loved to eat during his shift. Unfortunately, after a long night on the road, he did not care about cleaning his mess. After a month of it, the P&D guy left him a message on the DVIR. It said: "Hey you jackarse running my truck at night, I don't appreciate you eating food while you are driving MY truck at night and leaving YOUR trash all over the truck. I got grease and breading kegged on to my steering wheel and I cant get into the cab without tripping over empty bags of chips and soda cans. Clean your stupid mess or I will punch you on the nose".

Turns out Chubs got butthurt and quit the next day. TM sent a terminal wide message not to leave anymore nastygrams on the DVIR.

That's disgusting. It makes you wonder how these people live.

I don't even like my trailer messy. I don't know how some guys stand tripping over stuff all day. I personally want all the room I can get for moving pallets. The big one is strapping your hand truck to the wall. That's a must for me.

Good grief, don't even get me started on residential deliveries. I always dread them since you never know what to expect when you get there. If it's not some stupid location in the mountains, it is a stupid location in town where you have to block traffic. Then you got the idiot homeowner that doesn't understand the concept of "curbside only".

I can not drag your freight through your yard, into your house, or up a bunch of stairs. We are not Sears. We don't do the whole shoe covers and white glove installation.

Hell, TM should have given the driver a raise and a standing ovation, rather than being so namby-pamby over it.

If I were TM at our barn I would fire half of them right off the bat just for being stupid.

Why the knucklehead that topped the 13'1" straight truck while trying to shoehorn it under an 11'6" bridge with signs EVERYWHERE still works here is beyond me.
