You have just did a drop and hook delivery in Marietta Georgia. It is 7AM and you have only been awake for about 90 minutes. You are preplanned on a beer load in Cartersville Georgia that will not be ready until about 10PM. You decide to drive up to the TA truck stop near your pickup point but once there you see you can't sleep. Because of this it is now 9:30 PM and you have not got any sleep. You are expected to deliver that load in Little Rock sometime before noon the next day. What do you do?

    Brew some coffee and run.

This happen to me a few times. I would be awake for about 6 hours until I start feeling sleepy again. I'll rest for a few hours and continue. If a 8/2 split can help, do it

I would have gotten at least 4 to 5 hours of sleep before 930.

I think practicing some "sleep" discipline would definitely help you out in the future. Otherwise, you'll be running off caffeine and rumble strips all trip long. Good luck buddy. Don't fall asleep.

The eLog status and HOS rules say you had sufficient time to get sufficient sleep according to the powers that be and dispatch.

Trucking is a 24/7 job. I can't sleep more then a few hours when the sun is out. Summers (the longest days of the year) are the worst time in this regard.

You gotta suck it up and make it happen or find another line of work. I don't like it either and I'm pre planned for this similar setup in a few days.

The military taught me how to sleep anywhere. I'd have gotten some zzzs.

Keep fruit (apples, pears, tangerines, etc) and hard candy and bottled tea nearby and try and stop and walk around the truck every 2-3 hours enroute

For me a cold drink and a cold truck keeps me awake. Sometimes when I m dead tired I get on the CB and meet up with another driver going the same way and BS for awhile and before I know it I m wide awake and where I need to be

I am now retired. This did actually happen to me though. I went on duty drove about an hour west of Birmingham. I pulled over and went to sleep. It was a service failure that I regret to this day. I did get the load delivered just 24 hours late.
