The success rate is simply too low for me to recommend anything but either a decent company job, or a well planned and financed truck ownership outside of these rental 'schemes'.

Yea I'm on drugs because I actually research and talk to real people involved before I spew crap out of my mouth. I'm not saying all l/p's are good I'm saying there are some out there that work but you have to make them work for you.
Like myself, I know 5 shippers and recievers that can take me out and back from my area and I'm about to crack open the info on a 6th. All these have steady year around freight and are ALWAYS over $2.15 a mile and have been for years. I took this info to the company I am going to do a l/p with. They have no problem running me out of specific shippers and let me book my own loads. One of the round trips is 1100 miles total so around $2400 gross every 2 days and at 68% is around $5,000 gross a week. These shipper/recievers have stated they will hand the load contract over to me to verify I am being paid correctly.
I researched, I did and continue to do my own foot work. I also have 3 other companies waiting in the wings to take my truck to if the original company doesn't follow through with their word.
On top of this I fully plan on getting a cheap used truck insted of a expensive new one.
As a company driver for nearly a decade I have researched rates, lanes, trucks, , engine/trans combo's, even dug in and got my hands on a few l/p contracts. Everything from insurance to what kinda tires to get the best fuel economy.
I know I am not guaranteed to be successful but it is people like me that have more of a chance to be successful. You offer 0 knowledge other than the status quo. "Don't do it.....they all suck", "your doomed to fail", etc, etc.
And no I'm not talking about $1 a mile freight/carriers. I'm talking percentage based pay with the ability to find your own loads.tscottme, rocknroll81, CasanovaCruiser and 2 others Thank this. -
Bigtruck860 and KriegHund Thank this.

I don't usually comment in the LP section due to the 0-100 mph nature of the escalation of arguments.
I've met very few that succeed in this model, and that was the basis of my opinion.
Results may vary.KriegHund Thanks this. -

What I said wasn't directed at you either. There was a post above yours and I didn't quote it. Now its been deleted so it looks like I was talking to you. Sorry for the confusionblairandgretchen Thanks this. -
majority of the lease is a scam. But some times you will find one you can make money with. You are not going to own the truck, just treat like rented truck safe enought money and buy your own. I lease truck for 3 month make bunch money and then buy my own.
