It falls under log falsification to log off duty while your body is in the sleeper. Driver can be fined up to $2750 and the carrier up to $11,000 bucks. I wish and hope I am wrong, Check with your company's safety dept or call the DOT for confirmation.

Never heard of that. About the only time I log sleeper is when I know I will need to use the split to make ontime delivery.
The company discourages use of split sleeper but hasnt removed it from the qc.
Ive only been driving for 7 weeks and have had to use split sleeper at least 5 times so its not as uncommon as some might think...or the company would prefer.
As for the posted paper logs I have no clue. I just elog sleeper as soon as I can then check in 8hrs to see how many hours I got back.
Yeah I am one of these newbie drivers that lets the Qualcomm hold their hand. What of it?. -
Thank you all for your input. This was just an exercise which I did to understand the split thing. I was discussing the topic with a friend who is a newbie like me. The sample data was taken from 2 small trip he does from Mississuaga, ON to New York and Mississauga to Michigan. He does those two trips separately each day, returning home in between. That long off duty time the first day is actually driver is at home. and those 15 mins breaks are just an assumption of the time spent at the border. Its a starting job so there is not much, just a bit of much needed experience for the next job.
The point we were discussing was if those two trips could be done kind of back to back without returning home and wasting so much time. Again assuming that company is ready to arrange a truck with sleeper bunk.
Thank you again!Last edited: Jun 25, 2016

There is another problem with the Logs, I aint gonna let you go away that easy.
You have to match your locations where you logged versus the speeds, toll tickets and STAMPED bills of lading date and times must match your logs. Prepass etc must match. In fact if you speed too much between any two toll, bingo !!! ticket time.
A dim memory of the PA Turnpike burned into my heart remembers there is a certain time frame your tolls are ok once you got into the PA Pike system. 16 hours or 20 hours unless a Storm was in progress. It was stamped on the ticket back in my time to encourage truckers to move out and be gone.
Dispose of the word rare. You are going to find that nothing is the same on the road day in and day out. Today is your day as you live it right now. Tonight will be something else. Tomorrow? Cross that frontier when you make it that far. And what happened with this load today is not going to happen with the same dispatch in the future.
In the past Ive talked about three logbooks. That is because two are trash exercises and one is always ready for the lawman standing on my fuel tank demanding the log. The other two will not be detected. Not unless they tear the rig apart.
I have had situations where I had to take a sleeper until midnight in a split time to get fuel approval at the midnight hour local time when I was short on fuel once. It cost me 9 hours waiting, but kept everyone legal as I was totally out of hours that evening, not even 15 minutes to fuel and log legally.
Ive been inspected so many times that I don't care what they do anymore it does not bother me, It's legal. If they find something wrong I always get a chance to correct it by Law. Everyone is given the chance to fix a mistake before it becomes deemed a violation and tickets are generated.
Ive used my bobtail as a personal vehicle. No logs in sight. All off duty with a card relieving me of all responsibility when off duty. Just need the record for the last place I went off duty and then wherever I might be getting the loaded trailer to return to duty status, usually I have had the tractor for a week or more and there is a fresh batch of hours ready to go.
That's all for now. There is more but I will deal with them later.newbie74 Thanks this. -
But the 2 hour block? Yes. Agreed. It must be logged "Sleeper" because of some goofy writer who was drunk at the time and thought it would be funny. And it stuck. -

I think you have that backwards. 8 must be sleeper, the 2 can be off duty.
