I'll have to join this elite group! Mutiny on the Magnum

 

Can anyone of you fill me in on expected miles per week for a new hire @ Magnum? I have no clue on OTR as I've always been Oilfield & Construction & mostly hrly pay...And is it actual mile or just loaded miles paid?

 

Starting you should assume 2000-2500 for the first month, that will ramp to 2200-2700 and will slowly go up as you learn the lanes and dispatch gets an understanding of how you run.

We are paid on practical mile - read through the thread as there have been many discussions from new CDL's as well as new drivers with experience, several of which came from the oilfields. Feel free to PM me if there's a more detailed question you'd like to ask.

Practical Miles?

 

Yes like PC Miller miles, they are a blend between actual route (closest route) and air miles. In practice they work out to the shortest route from your pickup to your drop, deadhead miles also work this way.

We are not given fuel solutions or specific route instructions (sometimes we avoid permits like New Mexico for example) but for the most part you pick your own route. When you get a load offer you see the miles by state you are being paid for up front.

Kinda haha thanks..I know I'm taking a HUGE pay loss going OTR but I'm just ready for a change & hopefully the learning curve will be minimal..I'm choosing Magnum because I'm from Montana & have family in North Dakota so thats where I want most of my home time so I weighed the pay loss with that perk

 

You took my 'everybody' too literally. It's like when a waitress/waiter greets a group at a table with 'what can I get you guys to drink', they aren't just talking to the men in the group.

You are at least prepared for a pay cut. I went from mid 50's to low 60's, to now barely breaking into the 50's, and a $200/month increase in insurance cost (with a big deductible), plus spending more time away from home to enhance my trucking pleasure
