I often read varied opinions in regards to guns, where some say you can drive around with them if they're locked up.
Besides guns, what are some good legal weapons for self-defense out on the road?
What weapons can drivers have?

As far as the law is concerned, possession of a firearm is controlled by the state you are in. Example: In Mississippi you would be good to go with your VT permit (actually no permit is required to carry in your vehicle in MS). In New Jersey, you would be charged with a felony regardless of your permit.
Every state is different.BUMBACLADWAR, brian991219, Mtn Gal and 1 other person Thank this. -
The same goes with knives. In some states it is illegal to keep a pocketknife in your pocket. It has to be visible.

Being a female, turning 65 in a couple weeks, my weapon of choice is not allowed by the companies I worked for
My last company, owned by a husband & wife, told me to use my tire thumper. Really??!! I don't want someone attacking me to be that close. I carry wasp spray that shoots 20 feet (got some in my face spraying wasps in the soffit of my house....burns eyes). I also have a tazor. The wasp spray is awkward to carry but fits in most of my pants pockets that aren't jeans.
I'm not paranoid but had a scare at the rest area at 141 mm on 80 in WY about midnight. A guy came in from the pov side behind me and tried to come into the womens restroom following me. Realizing he was right behind me, I turned and asked what he wanted. Instead of saying, Whoops and going into the mens, he took out of there and left. Got the old heart racing and thinking what I could do to protect myself. Hope I don't have to use it.rachi, MidWest_MacDaddy, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've been doing some reading on this. I will touch on the ccw side of it because I haven't figured anything out on the other side of it. A ccw for those that don't know is concealed carry. If you have a ccw other states may recognise it. If they do not recognize your state's ccw permit then. If you you have a firearm, it has to be unloaded and locked up in a case not within reach of you while you are in that state. If you deliver to a place that will not let you carry a firearm inside then you can always lock it up and put it awayou then go inside. Other than state regulations and no carry places it is up to company policy if they will allow it or not.

Above is a website that you can look at to see if your state is recognized by others. Click the link, scroll down to the map. Click your state, then above the map click on states that honor my permit. It will then change the color of surrounding states. Red means lock the gun up and blue means your ok. For an example I have inches a screenshot of who do and dose not honor a missouri ccw permitAttached Files:

Per Illinois, not sure if every states does this;
If you are going to a place that doesn't allow firearm, school, courthouse, government buildings, you are still allow to enter the property, get out your car and put the weapon away. Obviously in the parking lot only. Now if they have guards checking, that's a different storyx1Heavy Thanks this.
