"The McClure-Volkmer Act however, only protects you if you are passing through a state with minimal essential stops such as fueling up, getting food, an emergency or bathroom break. Longer stops, such as a night in a hotel, visits with friends or family, or stopping at a tourist attraction can lead you to having to comply with all of those states firearms laws. If you decide to stay a night in California while carrying a banned gun, you will be breaking the law."

I have a CCW in Ma when I lived there and now have it as a non resident of the state. I also have one in FL where I currently live. I've made a couple dozen trips to and from over the last 8 years and always brought it with me. The law allows me to take it if I'm just passing through and not stopping for any period of time. I was covered because I owned homes in both states even before I got my ccw in FL.
For me at the time traveling through Connecticut was the strictest state and it had to be locked in the trunk.

Even if you pulled it off you'd be limited on a gun that was legal in every state..Massachusetts has a very large list of banned guns. Example;for the most part Glock's are illegal there. All said you'd likely need to be a well versed lawyer to pull it off...
Me, I'd carry a small aluminum bat. Also a 1/2 dia x 2.5' metal rod with a large washer welded on 6" in from one end for a hand stop with the other end sharpened..If that doesn't stop an attacker...run like your life depended on it![]()

Personally I'd get one of the many pepper spray recipes and make my own. Put it in a large plastic squirt bottle and write in marker on the bottle "tire cleaner". Add a little red food coloring so it looks like a cleaning solvent -

Being in Vermont leaves you in kind of a predicament. It's a case of, "You can't get there from here."
