There is so much stuff you seem to need when you are an OTR truck driver from what i'm seeing. Just watched a youtube video where a guy bought a battery operated leaf blower to clean out the trailer. Very smart a lot easier then using a push broom and quicker.

But besides that there is so much other stuff you need to buy. It seems like every video i watch there is something else recommended to buy. The high dollar stuff GPS, dash cam, cooler, a quality bluetooth headset, a cb radio... and like a hundred other little things. I know it's a career and I don't mind buying stuff to make me more efficient and comfortable on the road but do people really come out here and start out with all of this stuff?

Gps and a map book is all u need. When I had to go to a spare truck, that's all I took, and my toolbag. The rest just makes the job easier but not necessary

You would be surprised at all the stuff you need when you live on a truck for a couple weeks at a time. I stay out one week but i have a huge duffel bag full of cloths and 4 big plactic totes full of stuff, not to mention tools, leaf blower, etc. Some people also bring a 5 gallon bucket in case of emergency when you get the squirts. Dont forget cirrius, gps, tablet and all the other stuff.

Buy a quality GPS. Thats about it.

You don't need a cooler. Drove for years never needed one. Waste of time and space.

You can get a cheap bluetooth device for $15 at any truck stop, amazon, or eBay and I have had more luck with them than anything 10x the cost.

Pick up a $30-35 CB online or at Walmart and be done with it. Many times I am happier with my cheap CB then the more expensive ones that I own. Guys drive for years without one.

Dash cam - nice but don't need.

Screw the leaf blower. Look for a trucking company that will pay you for your work and leave it at that.

Quit #####ing. Try any other trade. How about mechanic. I probably have over 20K in just one of my mechanics boxes. IDK never added it up. Carpenter, got thousands in those tools too. How about welder, I got 2 helmets that cost over $300 new that won't even strike an arc. Machinist, a quality brand name mic. starts out at $100. Your going to need 3-6 of those to just get started on your tool set.

Buying Chinese stuff means you'll replace it 10 times over your lifetime equating to greater cost

Yup, learn my lesson, trying to take a bolt out in the cold. Had to use my cheater bar to help my breaker bar to undo a bolt. Freaking think snap. Lucky I carry spares socket wrench.

The propper stuff carried on the truck wiill help a driver get the job done easier and efficient. Tools are a important part of your gear.
    Cable ties
    3lb sledge
    Crow bar
Broom and 18 volt leaf blower
    Cable ties
    Wire
    Various wrenches, screw drivers, etc.
With proper tools you can do small repairs to keep ya moving instead of waiting at the TA to get repaired. Easy to install mud flap, head light, various lights on truck and trailer, change out a battery on a reefer. The object is to do the minor repair yourself so you can get on down the road.
