Funny thing, i already got this job thru this very site. Yeah, I know, get another job if I dont like the camera. Im actually not unhappy. I just cannot be fielding cell calls to the DM or searching CL for parking spots while driving. Its an instant firing offense. DM wont answer anyway. If you really want to know, my plan is to stick it out here until I'm more employable. In the meantime I'm getting trained in a division that requires extra training - flatbed. I'm learning thru a reputable company, even if they piss off veteran drivers because of cameras and micromanagement. Yes, I'm like you guys, wanting more and better..and would prefer no camera, but it's ok for now. BTW I appreciate your solid free advice. I have been using forums for 2 decades on everything immaginable: cars, diesel engines, pets, bikes, house hunting, bands, health issues, etc. I find there are really helpful people who just enjoy giving advice freely. I'm that way too. The people who lurk to just criticize are...well, sad. Thx again. Carry on.

If you turn the APU off then make sure EVERYTHING is turned off. Most trucks nowadays have a cut off switch to shut everything off. If truck is sitting for the amount of time you said any kind of draw on the batteries can hamper your restart. Just sayin

Since my truck has a fridge, I leave my APU on "stand-by" when I park so it keeps the batteries charged...but I park in my own driveway. If I were a thief, a running APU would be a sign that someone may be in the truck, so breaking in might not be a good idea.

I used to park 2 blocks away from my house at a huge 7-11 parking lot. I remember I used to walk around midnight every sat and Sunday to make sure everything was all G

Your company has a no hand held device policy? That's strange. Are you sure?

He has an Apu. Leave it on standby assuming its a diesel Apu and it will monitor battery charge. Turn everything else off.

Let this thread be a good lesson to those looking to become a truck driver, to set up a parking spot BEFORE you're issued a truck.

Sounds like you are driving for Melton. Honestly i would leave three apu on that way it keeps the batteries charged, and the apu running will make people think that someone is im the truck.

Shoot, some of these folks can't even think of the right questions to ask a recruiter, let alone looking far enough ahead to plan on parking.
When I was with Knight, I'd bring my truck home, and park it in my driveway, in the back yard, behind locked gates. We used to be able to park on the street in front of the house here. Then a real jerk wad of a company tried to muscle their way into LTL here. To save money, they first squatted on a vacant lot, using a couple of flat beds as a dock, and box trailers as warehouse. When they got kicked out of that, they moved their operation out here, and tried to use a city street in a similar manner.
So our city council, in a typical government overreaction banned ALL truck parking on public roadways within the city limits. Only exceptions were while making deliveries or pick-ups.
