Lol
I chained for my first time 4 years ago on snoqualmie.
Figured it was time to give it a go
That first time can make you feel like a real idiot.
Especially paying for the bungees that are suddenly like gold.
CHAINING...are you ready?

With all my years of driving never had to put a chain on a truck
7-UP Thanks this. -
It took me over two hours the time I did it
I looked up the Wash laws and I think it said two and one
A nasty dot lady came by and said, "I want all four on the front and two on the trailer.
Never again -

First and only time so far I had to do it was also over Snoqualmie. I think I did it correctly. Put 4 singles on all outside drives and we singles on Trailer. Drove maybe 1/4 mile, could hear them, stopped and tightened them as tight as I could. I was empty at the time and needed to get to my Saturday pickup so as not to sit there all weekend.
Hammer166 Thanks this. -
1. Chains draped, roll onto chains, then get your key and bungees to carry with you as you go around connecting and securing the chains.
1a. Chain key (wrench):...twice you tossed it down on the ground, do that with snow/slush you won't find it again. Place the key in the wheel well when you are connecting the chains never on the ground or in your pocket, hand to well to hand.
2. Positioning chain on tire: ... grab hold of both rails on the front or back of tire (depending on which way you need to adjust, then tug on one side then the other so the chain moves about 3 inches each side. By grabbing the cross link directly on the tire, the chain will snag and not move evenly.
3. The only part of the chain you need to protect (not run over) is the connecting lock. In your instance, the bar, on other types the hook. If that gets bent the chain is toast...any link is OK to run over.
4. You didn't remind viewers to pay attention to traffic...when on the traffic flow side, keep checking for vehicles traveling on the road. There are drivers that think it is just hilarious to splash and "move in close" to the installer. Also, be prepared to jump clear of that situation...KNOW YOUR ESCAPE ROUTE AT ALL TIMES! You might have to dive under your trailer or jump into the catwalk area...but know where you are going to go.
Oh yeah....wash your hands! Your steering wheel must be a mess by now! -
