Crete does now, Shaffer pays $.02 more than Crete, Poly pays .50 for everyone, every load and for every mile the tires turns...EVERY mile, including the ones from your final delivery to your driveway and back to your backhaul customer. The only miles the truck ran that weren't paid were when you left the Poly compound bobtail to go shopping or to a truck stop because Poly wasn't a trucking company, they are a delivery division of a plastics manufacturer, so their plant facilities weren't designed for drivers camping out. But they didn't mind if you went 50 or 60 miles round trip to a truck stop. I regularly went from Grand Prairie to the Love's down by Wilmer. Plus Poly's hometime policy beats both Magnum and Crete as long as you turned 8000 miles a month.

Pete isn't known for their efficient ergonomic layout. In a sleeper this size, there shouldn't be storage issues, but I think this 80" sleeper has less storage than a Prostar mid-roof. The Prostar Crete had was equipped with a lot better quality seat. It had a lot more adjustments, better adjustable support in all areas, and it would swivel. The only seat better is the new Bose system. Many of Poly's older Prostar's had seats that felt more like cloth covered church pews. And no to the discussion of more drop trailers, but we did talk reefer units. He said pretty much what someone else mentioned a while back, TK's are the drivers choice, but Carrier is more reliable. He did say that Carrier is suppose to be improving the noise issue with a redesigned exhaust system. And yes, if Poly had started buying Petes, I might have held on a little longer as long as they didn't let their shop repair them...just change the oil or send it to the dealer. I would have even stayed if they had some sort of reasonable breakdown pay policy.

unless you're short, an upper bunk in these trucks gives you a headache, from all the times you whack your head getting in and out of bed. Think of the old WWII submarine movies where they showed the bunks.

Don't get me wrong...I drove a loaner 587 with over 300k on the clock. It drove fine, it pulled ok, but didn't ride as good as my 579, and had a lot more engine and road noise, and the plastic rattles/squeeks were madening. I can't say these won't rattle and squeek like that in 200,000 more miles, but that 587's interior noise was as close to an old Freightliner Century as Pete can get.

That was the old pay system. Magnum ended up with a bunch of 20 year drivers who would only do 4,000 miles a month, then go home. Not everyone is as driven as you and I to make max dollar. Pay by performance got rid of them.

    Winnyf1 and Pigbacon Thank this.
