I'm still not sold on JCT's fuel routing. The one I got for this load was to get 50gal in Houston, fill in Ardmore, 70gal in Cheyenne, and fill in Stanfield. Avg cost per gallon...$2.249 and adds about 150 unpaid miles to the trip.
I got 50 gals in Houston (like the route suggested), but I needed DEF and reefer also. And to washout the trailer. Next fuel stop I just made. The Alon/7-11 just north of Wichita Falls on US287 for $2.099. Next fuel stop will be in Cheyenne, but not at the Flying J. I will save an extra 15 cents per gallon at the Diamond Shamrock across the highway. Then I will hit the Pilot in Stanfield for fuel. That puts me on par with the paid miles and gives me an average fuel cost $2.219 a gallon.
And their routing is suppose to save me money how? I know a 3 cent difference don't seem like much, but it adds up plus the extra unpaid miles for no reason.
Also, if you need a washout in Houston, instead of the BlueBeacon next to Loves, go down to the Pilot and across the street from the Pilot is McCarty Truck Wash. $27 for a washout and while the Beacon already had a 2 hour wait at 8am, there was no wait at McCarty. They said they don't usually get busy til after 10-11am.Last edited: Oct 25, 2016

I take off from the Rialto Travel center near the colton DC and head up the hill to Lineage. I get up the hill to be greeted by DOT on both sides of the road doing truck inspections.
Judging by how hard they were looking at the front of my truck, I think it was more a CARB check for clean idle stickers because they just waved me by.MachoCyclone and crxdc Thank this. -
Man, you just can't talk to some people. Saw another one of our drivers and we got to talking. He mentioned how he was making more since he started following the fuel routing. I naturally said that the fuel routing is a way to increase JCT fuel purchase volume at PFJ and most likely benefits them with fuel taxes. I asked for numbers. He had none and so I proceeded to give numbers.
Showed him my numbers from past loads and the ones from this load. He actually told me I was full of #### and that 3 cents per gallon wasn't nothing and I shouldn't worry about an extra 150 miles because the paid miles will never match the actual miles.
My response to this was I've been in a lease purchase for 5 years (3 here and 2 at previous company) and I know how purchase fuel. And I know that the paid miles will never match the actual miles but an extra 150 miles is an extra 21.4 gallons of fuel. If I did that for a year that's an extra 1027.2 gallons in fuel (@ 7mpg average). At 3 cents per gallon (based on that is average savings by picking my fuel stops) that's $30.816 of extra fuel cost. And say an extra 150 unpaid miles per week. That's an extra 7200 unpaid miles a year. For a total of $6,480 in lost revenue.
My next question was then, how much money do I have to lose in order to make more? Guy walks off and refuses to answer my question.
It's amazing what numbers do.88 Alpha Thanks this. -
Yep. Those guys fail then blame jct. If I followed their plan I would drive out of my way many times then pay more for it. The load I got on way home they said to fuel at pfj at 2.65 but 3 exits away was a no name place for 2.15. Smh
MachoCyclone Thanks this. -
My fuel routing for this load from Riverside to Phoenix was Phoenix: FILL. Flying J.
*Al Borland voice* I don't think so, Tim...MachoCyclone Thanks this. -
I thought JCT's fuel routing was for those too stupid to plan their routes based on fuel efficiency and fuel price? If the people following it are making more money than before it just goes to show how stupid they truely are! Plus the people following JCT's fuel routing obviously are too stupid to realize JCT just put it into them for X amount of unpaid miles.
Kamkor, MachoCyclone and crxdc Thank this. -
I'm still waiting for someone to show me good hard numbers backing up the claim of making more following the suggested fuel route. Haven't come across someone that could do that yet. All they ever show me is the fuel rebate balance on the EFS card.
