Yea, I don't haul them enough to have a set of coil bags, so I use lumber tarps.
Seems like the straps and tarps do stay on better shotgun, I was just thinking that maybe they made it a law or something that you couldn't have them shotgun.

I did that for years, so i know what you mean.

then one day i decided to buy a couple coil bags. Once i used them, i wished i bought them along time ago. Plus, since i didnt use them much, they didnt get a chance to get tore all to hell. Just used them every once in a while. Theres a few different sizes, so you can cover just about any size coil. Obviously though, if you had several coils on, then it only makes sense to use a regular tarp.

Those are loaded in Indiana by the river port barge and crane, transloaded across and then shotgun.

The shotguns went to Whirlpool in Louisville KY. Day in and day out. Chain chain chain tarp tarp tarp. Blocks of wood yea long and thick, old rubber conveyor belt material and binders plus straps. I always threw everything on them even though the 7000 pound coil might only need say 3 chains.

Most of my coil work was eye to sky thankfully but if you stopped too fast you will walk the pallets and without securement of same destroy em.

The biggest shotgun was out of a mill near Gary IN. That one was the width of the deck as well as height and 20 feet long at 52000 exactly. Putting me right at 80300 or something minus a bit of fuel burn. It was not a enjoyable load because of the immense pressure on the Ravens Covered Wagon it was placed on. Tippy too.

Always fun when the shipper loads em suicide and you get to the customer and they're like, "WTF WE ASKED FOR SHOTGUN." Or vice versa...

Do your job right and it doesn't matter how they are loaded. That said, if i have the choice, i prefer suicide. Much faster to chain down.

Shot gun is less common today than 20 years ago, i don't really know why but I'm guessing it's cause to many idiots didn't know how to secure them right and they got to the consignee telescoped out.

I think more facilities are using forklifts with the coil spikes today too. Or have those overhead cranes that cane do both. *shrug*

Probably because you can get more chains on a suicide. Or drivers don't like the idea of killing other people rather than themselves if they can help it.

I can see that if they unload with a forklift, but why wouldn't they unload a shotgun coil with an overhead crane?
